THQ Studio Australia, based in Brisbane, Australia, is a developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software. Founded in January 2003 as part of THQ Inc., THQ Studio Australia now employs more than 80 talented staff developing on all major console platforms, including Microsoft Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii.
We are currently seeking a Senior Environment Artist to bring our environments to life, and work as part of the talented team.
Within this role you will be responsible for:
- Level organization, scene compositions, building of assets, lighting of the level, its optimisation and debug.
- Alighing your work with the game design and artistic direction related to you, as well as the tools and particularities of the game engine.
- Undertake graphic research related to your level and participate in the level creation by working directly with the level designer.
- Listing, managing and prioritising the assets needed for the level production (models, textures, effects, etc.).
- Modelling and texturing assets as well as mentoring junior artists to achieve superior graphic results.
- Working towards consistent improvement of your quality and optimisation, and be responsible for the final debug.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Excellent concept, modeling and texturing skills, including a strong understanding of efficient techniques for game production.
- A strong grasp of all aspects of production of environmental assets for a AAA game.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to accept and follow direction, collaborate with others, and work to meet deadlines as necessary.
- Excellent organizational skills with an ability to multitask effectively.
- Excellent estimation skills for assets creation
- Ability to mentor junior members of the team on asset production.
- Strong Texture painting skills with a superior eye for color and detail when creating texture maps.
- Ability to read a 2D concept and 'accurately' translate to model and texture.
- Good understanding of maximizing the lighting and shadow opportunities when creating an environment space
- Proven 3D skills for both high-end and low resolution modeling in Maya or equivalent 3d package.
- Familiarity with Photoshop.
- 5+ years industry experience.
