AGDC 2005 Awards Results

Heroes of the Pacific wins AGDC game of the Year.

It also won awards for Best Art, Best Programming & Best PC Game, making it the most rewarded game on the night, which isn?t a bad result for IR Gurus first attempt at creating a international game.

Sidhe interactive picked up awards for Best Level Design, Best Game Design and Best Handheld Game, which demonstrates a healthy NZ presence.

Destroy All Humans won Best Console game, and Firemint walked away with a few deserved awards in the mobile space.

Mario Wynands of Sidhe also picked up the gong for greatest contribution to the industry.

And if memory serves Gridworks picked up an award for best start up.

It was notable that all the winning games were original IP's, which bodes well for the industry as a whole.

** Steve Stamatiadis - The Career Achievement Award
TY the Tasmanian Tiger 3: Night of the Quinkan - Best Original Character Design
Firemint - Best New Start-Up Company

Destroy All Humans was the most important Australian(/NZ) game this year. I'm very surprised it didn't win more awards.

What make it more important than games like Gripshift, Heroes of the Pacific or TY 3? It's just another fun game - it's not going to change the world any more than the others.

Gridwerx was fortunate to pick up the award for Best Unsigned Game (Professional).

Thanks to everyone who has supported us throughout the year and helped us reach our goals.

QANTM College student were dissapointed not to pickup the Best Unpublish Game (independant) but respect the vote of the 'delegates' - congratulations to the winners from AIE. Even without a win it was a great event for QANTM College students with a number getting interviews for jobs while they were there. I am sure next year (what ever form the conference takes) will be bigger and batter - just like the industry ;-)

I was told that the top 3 or 4 places in the independant category were very close. I reckon that QANTM was one that just missed out.

I imagine it would have been very close - I tried out all of the indie entries, and found it very difficult to select a winner since they were all very good. Congrats to the winners, and to all the other entrants.
