Lead Digital Artists 2D/3D for Tantalus
Who are Tantalus?
With fourteen years in the business and a portfolio of over thirty titles on most major platforms, Tantalus is an independent development studio, renowned for work on franchises such as Sponge Bob, Top Gear, MX vs ATV, Cars and Pony Friends. Tantalus are the only studio in Australia who made Develop Magazine’s most recent Top 100 list - all 3 titles developed by Tantalus last year rank among the Top 100 selling games of the year.
The next phase of growth and platform diversification will see the release of the company’s first Wii title, the opening up of new studios and development on new and exciting platforms.
Tantalus Media are looking for Lead Artists with solid experience working in games for our Melbourne-based studio. Melbourne is known for its comfortable lifestyle, focusing on the arts, sport & food, and its friendly people.
Responsibilities
• Lead and manage a small working art team across multiple platforms.
• Be a proactive, dynamic and integral personality on the project.
• To determine the technical and artistic challenges that must be met to achieve the artistic vision and ensure the vision is fully realised
• To create and maintain high art standards.
• To mentor, support and inspire the art team.
• To report regularly to the company Art Director.
• To deliver project milestones of high quality, on-time.
Experience Required
• At least 4 years experience in the industry, including some experience as a Lead Artist
• At least 1 published title as Lead Artist
• Hand held (low poly) experience an advantage.
Knowledge/Skills Required
• 4 years experience with industry standard 2-D package (e.g. Photoshop)
• 4 years experience with industry standard 3-D package (Maya/Max preferable)
• Excellent personal art skills in modelling, texturing and /or illustration.
• Excellent understanding of art pipelines, lighting, level creation, modelling /texturing and/or animation for game development.
• The ability and drive to push the current platforms to achieve the desired quality.
• Excellent problem solver and communicator.
• Must be able to buy into the established art direction of the game and ensure the vision is delivered and maintained by the team
• Genuine enthusiasm & passion for game development.
