Position Overview
A Senior Environment Artist is required to model and texture props and the scenery at a very high quality needed to build a complete environment, while adhering to the art style and direction set by the Art Director and Lead Environment Artist. As a Senior Environment Artist you will also be required to be more involved with the technical side of environment art creation depending on your personal strengths.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a high level of work quality at all times by combining an artistic talent and technical understanding of game development.
- Follow and act upon the art direction set by the Art Director and Lead Environment Artist.
- Work collaboratively with the environment team and provide feedback and ideas to improve the artwork.
- Follow and maintain project workflows and guidelines and maintain the organisation of assets.
- Create environments and assets that are visually impressive but also adhere to the technical limitations and dependencies of the engine.
- Export assets through the pipeline into game and debug errors associated with the art work.
- Provide support to tech and game teams fixing art issues, testing new features and collaborating to overcome technical limitations.
- Provide support and guidance to junior members of the team.
- Be flexible and accommodating to feedback and game changes in the pursuit of excellence.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Low and High Polygon modelling
- Texture painting and creation
- Understanding and creation of Specular, Normal, AO and Reflection maps
- Baking Normal maps from detailed meshes
- UVW Unwrapping
- Be responsive to deadlines and able to work under pressure
- Advanced understanding of Photoshop and 3ds Max (or similar 3d package)
- Knowledge and understanding of lighting.
Desirable
- Worked on at least 2 published titles to completion
- Excellent fine art skills
- Ability to use Zbrush
- Experience of using rendering engines like Beast, Turtle, or Vray
- Self-motivated and a positive customer focused attitude
