[edit] History

Blue Tongue Entertainment was formed in October 1995 as a combined web and game development firm, after the two founders, Chris Mosely and Andrew Heath, saw the potential to develop their respective areas of interest in computer software development and the Internet. The company received a $40,000 Victorian Government grant to assist in the development of its first product.

The focus of the company later shifted entirely to entertainment software development, when the web development arm was sold in 1998. In 1998, Blue Tongue was awarded an R&D Start grant by AusIndustry.

In 2002, Blue Tongue secured $2.5 million in advance funding from mega-publisher, Vivendi-Universal, to develop Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park has sold in excess of 500,000 units worldwide, generating total retail sales of approximately US$20 million.

Blue Tongue was acquired by THQ on November 17, 2004, and remains one of sixteen internal development studios of THQ, and their second Australian development studio.

"Consistent with THQ's strategic objective of utilizing internal development to improve product quality and operating margins, we are pleased to tap into the growing base of development talent in Australia as we continue to build our internal development capabilities," says Steve Dauterman, VP of product development for THQ Asia Pacific. "Through the acquisition of Blue Tongue, we will now have studio operations in both Brisbane and Melbourne, making THQ the premiere video game developer in the region." [1]

Blue Tongue has used its own game engine and tools in the development of its titles. The engine is a totally cross platform solution allowing simultaneous multi-sku development across all next-generation consoles, as well as PC.
