News type:

ABC Commercial is building an exciting new online games platform and we’re looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Games Designer to join our team. Based in the ABC’s Ultimo offices, you’ll be working with the rest of the project team to envision, scope, script, test, and deliver brain-training games for a compelling service addressing cognition.

This is a great opportunity for either a recently graduated Games student, or an already-established Designer to join the team. You’ll be joining a strong senior design and development team, who will provide the strategy and planning for games development, and creating games for a major new ABC initiative, to be launched later this year.

Responsibilities will include:

Under direction from the Game Director, script, review and maintain games including:

  • Using a game editor to control game behaviour and create game flow
  • Playing WIP versions and comparing them to other products and known standards, soliciting and analysing feedback e.g. QA feedback (bugs), and negotiating limitations (such as technical limitations) to bring them to a publishable standard
  • Working with product management and others, such as researchers, to fix issues and make corrections as required

Take an active role in the development of games including:

  • Producing game concepts in response to briefs supplied by the Game Director
  • Designing, prototyping, constructing (alone or working with others), testing and revising games focusing on success in satisfying objectives, engagement, and ease-of-use
  • Ensuring that that the game is aimed at intended audience and that constraints (e.g. of tools and target platforms) are taken into account
  • Documenting designs to a standard suitable for production and externals such as research teams; keeping such documents up to date
  • Communicating designs and coordinating communications about the design to other parties

Applicants should either already have, or be currently studying, a relevant tertiary qualification, and existing experience in designing and scripting games.
