Just seems to be a bit of oddity with the movement, mainly around the elbow area there is a bit of 'locking" or something.

Submitted by NathanRunge on Mon, 01/02/10 - 9:51 AM Permalink

I think the problem may be that, while the arm moves, there is absolutely no movement in the shoulder which remains quite static. If one was delivering a blow with force the shoulder would move forwards with the blow in order to utilise the strong muscles therein. Instead the body and shoulder remains quite static, preparing for the second blow. I'm not certain, but it may also improve with a shortened time-span within blows, so that the body flows properly.

Good work, but it looks to me that you could use more rotation in the torso and the hips are to far back. Also it looks like your not rotating the hips.

Nice animation. though, his shoulders could do with a little more movement and I think his back is a little too stiff and upright. Just my views, again maybe you were going for that look. All in all, great work! :)

Its a good start but I think your monster is lacking weight (especially the fact that he slides backwards so far when the knight jumps on his head) there is a lot of twinning in the arms to.

3d Bug Animation

Journal Category

I made this animation earlier this year, in my 3d design class...a six-legged bug. I had to design it, then model, texture, rig, skin and animate it using 3ds Max 8.

I have included a still frame of it, incase the video doesn't work yet...
also a link...

fine work

Nice work :)

With a bug, the legs move in a very interesting way, depending on the bug. It's probably best to just move the body forward first, and go back and have the legs 'skuttle' along in a less organised way. The weight probably doesn't need to go side to side so much (so many legs, he's not going to lose balance!)

This is a cartoon bug, but give it a try!

good working ^^

could you tell how to upload the animation in the site

I want to upload my working

Hey that's pretty damm cool! =D It looks like a enemy type that would fit into a Mario game.

If I can offer any advice on the animation. Is that the leg movement of insects generally is a pattern of chaos. Meaning that only one leg moves at a time, the leg in question can be random and it moves fast.

Submitted by Sakichii on Mon, 23/03/09 - 9:39 AM Permalink

Thanks :)
Yeah, I agree about the legs moving one at a time.
We were taught and incouraged to use dummies, for this particular assignment, more for saving time than anything.
I'm planning to make some time, most likely during the Easter holidays, to work on it a bit.
Once I improve the leg movement I'll upload the new version, or replace the current...either way...

Robot Spider Animation

Journal Category

I made this Spider Robot a while ago and I've done some animation cycles for it here's the first a jump.
I've done some more but they need some tweaking so here's the first finished one.

It's a nice animation, I like how it wriggles a bit before jumping. It's good for a first jump in a sequence, but it's not exactly an animation cycle since it's position moves and jumps back to the start at the end of the animation. An animation cycle is supposed to be on the spot and seemless...so that it appears as though it's jumping multiple times rather than replaying the same animation.

Low max jumping

I think he falls down onto the green thing then jumps off again?

Seraphjin, I think you really need to work on your environment and camera angles. Looking at the video, it is really difficult to see what is happening.
