Game Economy Designer

Overview

As a Game economy designer, your responsibility is to understand how a game works as a service for its customers and how the customers behave in it, identifying and developing the purchase drivers in the game economy context, and providing constant data-driven recommendation on design, tuning and pricing in order to improve game financial performance.

During mid-2011, a bomb-shell was exposed on the working conditions over at Gameloft Auckland. Inspired by the reports that unearthed the harsh working conditions at Team Bondi, head programmer Glenn Watson opened the lid on the sweat-shop like work conditions at Gameloft's new studio in New Zealand.

Through the investigative research conducted by editor in chief, Tim Colwill, for the Games On Net feature on the excessive work hours and crunch periods at Gameloft Auckland, some additional bit of interesting news was also uncovered in the process.

Inspired and encouraged by the recent insights of the gruelling working conditions and long hours at Team Bondi by anonymous ex-employees, another locally based games developer and now ex-employee of Gameloft Auckland has decided to whistle-blow on his previous employer for the same quality-of-life related concerns in the hope that the New Zealand based studio makes some radical changes for the health and safety of their employees.
