ECU is Western Australia's second largest university with over 20,000 students with origins going back to 1902. The Bachelor of Science in Digital Media began operation in 2004, followed by the Games Programming major in 2005 as part of the Bachelor of Computer Science degree. In 2006, the Bachelor of Creative Industries in Game Design and Culture was introduced.

nullarbor, the annual demo party and game development competition was inaugurated at ECU in 2006.

Edith Cowan University (ECU) offers several undergraduate games courses, including:

- Bachelor of Computer Science (Games Programming)
- Graduate Diploma of Games Programming
- Bachelor of Creative Industries (Game Design and Culture)
- Bachelor of Science (Digital Media)

Courses are designed to be combined through double majors, common units, and electives.

Postgraduate courses include:

- Graduate Diploma of Games Programming
- Master of Games and Simulation Programming
- Masters by Research and PhD with games technology topics
