Digital Lode is an immersive media company located in the Docklands Cotton Mills, Footscray.  We are a team of VR evangelists working on a variety of real time-rendered VR projects for all platforms, with a focus on standalone consumer VR. 

Digital Lode’s primary focus is our original "Espire VR” franchise. Espire 1: VR Operative released in November 2019 and is a single player VR experience with a focus on stealth, espionage and action. It’s a consistent top seller on the Oculus Quest storefront, and we want to take that success to the next level.

We are expanding our team and are looking for an experienced Game Designer to join our company. We have grand plans for our Espire stealth franchise and are looking for someone to join the team to help work on assisting with balance and UX to help us create the ultimate VR Stealth experience.


  • Join the team and work within an existing project, polishing and refining mechanics, features and systems.
  • For problem areas of the game, design solutions that are within the scope and ambition of the project, and address publisher and community feedback.
  • Working with production and development teams to break down designs into deliverable milestones. 
  • Work across game systems, game loops, balancing and UX to deliver a replayable stealth/combat action experience.
  • Assist with encounter design - player/enemy interactions. Work alongside level designers to create interesting enemy encounters for campaign missions and small challenges.
  • Collaborate with programmers and QA to iterate on game mechanics, AI and User interface.
  • Game test daily builds to balance gameplay and feature set, provide feedback and solutions to issues encountered


  • Demonstrated experience of working within the existing framework of a game in mid-production, working with existing tools, and designing with solutions that work within the limits of available budget and resources.
  • Excellent documentation skills with the ability to clearly outline design intentions and provide actionable items for other departments to execute on.
  • Great communication skills and a desire to be a part of a highly collaborative work environment.
  • The ability to balance/tweak existing mechanics and features and provide design solutions within the limits of a tight-scope project..
  • Excellent problem solving.
  • 2 years experience working professionally as a game designer in the video game industry
  • Experience working with Jira or other similar task trackers.

Preference to applicants with:

  • Prior experience designing for VR or working with VR titles.
  • Unreal engine 4 experience.
  • Shipped 1+ title for PC or Console
  • Played our game Espire 1.
  • Passionate for Stealth/action games.

The role length and remuneration will depend on the experience of the successful candidate, Ideally full time, but potential for flexible working arrangements for the right candidate.
