We are Grinding Gear Games, creators of the award-winning dark fantasy Action RPG Path of Exile. We're a diverse and inclusive studio of more than 175 world-class developers based in Auckland, New Zealand and we're currently expanding the Path of Exile 2 development team.

Grinding Gear Games is looking for a skilled Linux DevOps Engineer to join our server administration team at our office in Auckland, New Zealand.

Location: On-site in Henderson, Auckland, New Zealand
Relocation assistance (for the right candidate, if needed)
Full time position - 40 hours a week

As one of our server administrators you will be responsible for supporting both our online game, Path of Exile, as well as our internal server infrastructure within our office. You will also help maintain and improve the tooling and automation required by these systems.

To be considered you will need to have several years experience managing servers in a production environment, as well as a strong background in programming server-related automation (e.g. deployment and maintenance-related tasks). You also must be willing to be on-call on rotation.

The interview process will include a basic scripting aptitude test using Python, as well as a general practical test to assess Linux shell familiarity.

Technologies used in this role - the more of these (or similar products) you have experience with, the better:

  • Ubuntu and CentOS Linux distributions
  • Python
  • Bash
  • Zabbix
  • NGINX
  • PostgreSQL
  • Configuration management (e.g. Ansible)

Experience with the following is helpful:

  • Cloud technology including managing VMs via APIs
  • Assembling computer hardware and diagnosing hardware faults
  • Compiling packages from source and creating custom debs/rpms
  • Continuous integration (e.g. Buildbot)
  • Our game, Path of Exile

What we offer:

Our work hours are flexible, with core hours from 11.00am to 3.30pm.

We have a huge selection of free drinks for all the staff to enjoy while working. Think of a convenience store's range of drinks a few metres from your desk! Our rec rooms are stocked up daily with healthy snacks and a rotating range of seasonal fresh fruit and yoghurt, and catered meals are offered every week as part of our Monday mid-morning meetings.

When the work is done, we invite all staff to attend our expansion launch parties and Christmas parties to celebrate the effort they've put towards Path of Exile.

How to apply:

If you meet the above requirements, please email your resume and a cover letter to jobs@grindinggear.com with your name and role you are applying for in the subject line.

No phone calls or agencies, please.
