Game Plan project: Connecting Victoria's interactive media and games employers with skills development and training

Game Plan is a project that offers skills development and training to Victoria's expanding Games and Interactive Media industry. With funding from Skills Victoria, Game Plan's project partners SkillsHub and RMIT University will work with Victorian employers to create 25 new training placements to invigorate skills development in specialised industry roles.

Benefits to Games + Interactive Media Employers
Game Plan will assist interested employers in the Games and Interactive Media and related industries to identify government-funded training opportunities to fill skills gaps in their workplace.

Training options include

  • on-the-job training for existing eligible staff
  • or the option of taking on a new employee under a traineeship

Traineeships may attract financial government incentives and will be developed to suit the specific needs of the employer. The aim is that candidates will eventually qualify with a Diploma of Interactive Digital Media or an Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media.

Background
Victoria's Games and Interactive Media industry is globally renowned—boasting skills, talent and proven innovation. A higher growth rate in the global games market means there are more opportunities for Victoria's industry to expand. However with the increased value of the Australian dollar, local businesses face big challenges. A key challenge is finding trained people with the right combination of creative, technical and business skills to work in this changing industry.

Game Plan, a newly funded government project, aims to assist Victoria's Games and Interactive Media industry by connecting businesses with new training opportunities. Game Plan project partners SkillsHub and RMIT will provide vocational training outcomes for roles including Games Designers, Games Artists, 2D and 3D Animators, Production Assistants, Project Managers, Script Writers and other occupations currently in demand.

SkillsHub has already assisted twenty professionals in the screen industry to access government-funded training under the Making it Reel project and RMIT is the leading provider of accredited training for Victoria's media industries. The team is also working with 370 degrees group to offer the Group Training model as a flexible option for employers.
