www.gamedev.net has a report of the IGDA Melbourne Inaugural Meeting that was held just last night...

Chapter Coordinator David Hewitt, of Tantalus Interactive, indicated that around 20 participants were expected at the event, held at the Canada Hotel in Carlton, just over the road from development studio IR Gurus. The turnout of over 70 participants was a sign of the strength of the Melbourne development scene and it's committment to forging community links.

Among the participants were professional programmers, artists, business managers, independent developers, students, academics and members of peripheral industries. In his opening speech, Hewitt indicated that while the IGDA was principally a professional organisation working for the betterment of professional developers, the Melbourne Chapter would be inclusive rather than exclusive and would welcome anyone interested in game development.
