Opportunities in Independent Game Development, Dissecta event

Location

State Library of Victoria and Dissecta Present
Opportunities in Independent Game Development with Damian Scott, CEO - Primal Clarity and Aaron Styles

Next Week, Tuesday 31st March 2009. A free event from 6:30pm to 8pm. At the State Library of Victoria, Melbourne.

Dissecta presents Damian Scott, founder and CEO of Primal Clarity and lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology, along with one of the Dissecta team members, Aaron Styles (previously working at Infinite Interactive), who is currently working on his own independent game which he hopes to get out to market in the future, to provide us with an insight into the scope and potential that the Australian independent game development scene has to offer.

In this session, Damian Scott will discuss the topography that faces independent developers, and he will outline his belief that the time is ripe for independent design collectives to bolster traditional game development studios with a suite of pre-production services to maximize the creative and commercial success of their products, whilst funding their own development.

In support of Damian's presentation, Aaron will provide an insight into what he is experiencing and the progress he is making in his efforts to produce his own game and the initiatives already established at tsumea.com in creating teams of inde developers. Demonstation units will be onsight to see what the guys are working on currently.

Booking: this is a free event but booking is essential via the State Library Booking Link. For booking enquiries please call 03 8664 7099. A SPECIAL NOTE
As most of you will be aware the Founder and Convenor of Dissecta, Tim Richards passed away on the 21st of October 2008. Tim lost his battle with severe pulmonary hypertension due to congenital heart disease shortly after receiving a transplant but not without putting up a strong fight which was true testiment to his character. Tim will be sadly missed by his family, friends and the games industry as a whole.

Tim's vision and dedication to both Dissecta and GameNews.com.au and his belief in the local games industry were unparalled and it will be a massive task to continue this momentum. Our commitment to both Tim and his family is that we will keep going with what Tim has established with the ideals and principals he had set in place.

It is on this note that we ask for your continued support through donations to the Alfred Foundation which can be made during the Dissecta event or through the paypal account we have established on Tim's behalf. We are working to further establish facilities to recognise Tim Richard's extensive work in promoting and supporting the local games industry and his dedication to supporting the organ donar campaign. Please check back soon as we will be posting updates.

Victorian Bushfires
Our thoughts are also with the victims of the Victorian Bushfires and in helping the survivors of this terrible disaster. We are sure all of our Dissecta patrons have given generously to the Red Cross bushfire appeal. Please donate if possible as it is all desperately needed.
