Were 10 employees let go from Firemint or not?

Kotaku AU's rumour report on 10 staff retrenchments at Australia's leading mobile developer has been met with a quick rebuttal from Firemint's community manager, Sam Mayo.

The rumour suggested that as much as 10 employees from Melbourne-based Firemint, mostly non-managerial roles such as artists as well as a producer, were let go on Thursday and Friday this week.

Take Two have released their quarterly financial results which has put some interesting details on Team Bondi's 40's era detective thriller, L.A Noire.

Travel grants for India's FICCI Frames Convention 2012

In conjunction with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Screen Australia is offering travel grants of up to $2,500 for producers with advanced projects to attend the upcoming Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Frames Convention in Mumbai, 14–16 March 2012.

Frames is a three-day event for broadcast, digital entertainment, animation and gaming with nearly 2,000 Indian and 800 foreign delegates expected to attend.

Auran's Dark Reign remade and available on Xbox Marketplace

Magnetar Games has brought back Auran's popular 1997 RTS game, Dark Reign: The Future of War. The Canadian based developer made a deal to remake the game with publishing giant, Activision, and has made an accurate remake for the Xbox Live. It seems they did encounter a small hitch with bringing it to the Xbox Live Marketplace, but it looks to be all sorted out now...

Qantm College are seeking a sessional lecturer in game development within our Bachelor of Interactive Entertainment degree at our Melbourne campus.

The role will involve working with our final year students to develop small scale projects in either Unity or UDK. Applicants should therefore be conversant with practical development in at least one of these packages, while fluency in both packages would be an advantage.

Stalker online footage showcases BigWorld Tech

DSO Gaming has confirmed that this cloudy video production is of Stalker Online running on the BigWorld Tech engine. Stalker Online isn't related to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R ip, mind you, and has been worked on by another game developer entirely for quite some time. And while there are plenty of Stalker Online videos available for viewing on places like youtube, this particular new video stands out for its leap in visual aesthetics for the game, despite being filmed off another monitor.
