I was wondering what tunes ppl listened to while they worked and in general of course? :)
My most favourite music:
http://www.hellven.org (All free)
I have all the singles and albums :D
http://www.machinaesupremacy.com/ (Free downloads)
The best geek rock there is! (A must if you like c64 music)
Teque - www.mp3.com/Teque (Mostly free downloads)
A legendary musician
Also, FC Kahuna, Ministry of Sound 2003 Annual, Something For Kate, Creed, Incubus, Rage Against The Machine, Garbage, The Superjesus, and ALOT of mods (.mod/.it/.s3m/.xm/etc).
I love my big speakers. My Dad made them, so they are very good quality, no need for a sub, and you can turn them up LOUD (Like house-shaking-loud). Music isn't worth listening to unless you can feel it (I LOVE my bass). Since the computer room is sound-proof, I can turn it up pretty loud at night. And I do ;)

PS: Sorry if it's a bit rant-ish, but I am very passionate about my music :)
Maitrek "And as for the best gig? Probably won't happen until April 12th when Opeth comes to Adelaide with Chalice and Alchemist as support bands.... woohoo!!! Get your tickets from Venuetix blah....okay I'll stop pimping for Opeth now :) "
That means theyll probably play in melbourne!!!!! Awesome :)
"when it comes to angry killing machines, nothing beats the Lord Jesus!"
Just read this and thought that I would bring it back into people's minds (to see how tastes have changed).

Whatever I feel like at the time. Usually NIN, Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age, Kyuss, System Of A Down and Haujobb get played, but I also play (from time to time) Foo Fighters, Tea Party, Manson, Pantera, Fear Factory, Prodigy, Regurgitator, RATM, and a big mix of every song I think is kewl and that I have an MP3 for.
I'm suprised that someone else actually knows who Haujobb are :P Next someone will say that they listen to Apoptygma Berzerk.
The majority of music I listen to is heavy on the electronic side. Either that or quite dark :D Here are some of my favs.
A Perfect Circle
Amon Tobin (IDM artist, so that includes acid jazz. Listen to Bricolage for it)
Aphex Twin (and all his other alias')
Ayumi Hamasaki (her normal albums are good, but the Cyber Trance remixes of her songs are REALLY good)
Chemical Brothers
Conjure One (by the Rhys Fulber of Delerium)
Delerium (Poem is the best album)
Enigma
Happy Hardcore (a style of music. has awesome old game remixes)
Juno Reactor
Lacuna Coil (they should have the fame that Evanescence has :/)
Move (Japanese band)
NIN
Orbital
Plump DJs
Prodigy
Squarepusher
Tool
Tweaker (his remix of Flying On The Wings Of Steam is just brilliant)
Utada Hikaru (really nice voice and did the main song to Kingdom Hearts)
Thats all for now
Ah, someone revived a music thread... [:p] My personal faves for programming to (aside from C64 and other game soundtracks :)
Underworld
Cocteau Twins
Robin Guthrie (guitarist from C.T.)
Boards of Canada
The Bats
Orbital
Stone Roses
Clue to Kalo
Brian Eno
Michael Brook
Engima
BT
The Doves
Dead Can Dance
Deep Forest
Juno Reactor
Aphex Twin
Massive Attack
Chicane
Paul Oakenfold
Robert Miles
The flaming lips
Passengers (Eno + U2's soundtrack album - some amazing stuff there)
Chemical Brothers
Bettie Serveert
Hybrid
Also, highly recommend www.peoplesound.com for some really good downloadable music. The atmospheric and trance sections had some really great stuff in them. And I certainly second red's recommendation of www.hellven.org :)
And www.cdbaby.com seems to have one of the better ranges of CDs I've yet found on the net. Haven't ordered through them yet, but about to try 'em out.
Cool. Someone else is into IDM. I have to admit that I haven't listened to a lot of BOC, but I probably should.
It is also unusual to hear of someone that likes Orbital AND Underworld. I love Orbital but only think very little of Underworld. My friend is the complete opposite. Loves Underworld and only really like Halcyon by Orbital (but who doesn't love that song?)
Boards of Canada don't have a heap of percussion in their tracks, and are quite quirky in places. They seem to polarise listeners fairly quickly :)
Ah you've gotta listen to Underworld's remix of Orbital's "Lush" - not sure which CD it was on, think it may have been on a soundtrack... Best of both worlds :)
and now for my bit...my tastes in music might come as a shock to some...
to start off, the only music I HATE is rap and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers...
im a big punk guy so i like to listen to Blink 182, 28 Days, The Offspring, Good Charlotte, Killing Heidi, Lash, Frenzal Rhomb, Eskimo Joe, Bodyjar...etc
im a big fan of Aussie music...as you can probably tell...
i also occasionally listen to Lenny Kravitz, Machine Gun Falletio and Millencolin
atm I have discovered Hot Action Cop, and Fountains of Wayne...the video clip to Stacie's Mom rocks!
I also like the Best Ever Beer Songs albums...
Well now,..
It ranges from Sepultura / Fear factory / Blood Divine ( of the death metal genre )
to Frank Zappa, Pete Townsend, Jimmy Hendrix, good ol Joe Satriani, Steve vai, Yngwie Malmsteen ( legend ) and Ravi Shankar,.. good ol RAVI!
But seen as how the last 5 years or so ive been an on and off DJ, playing various styles of Electronic music,.. i Love my Drum n bass,.. grooverider, John B,.. rock,.. i love my funky sunday house,.. Silicone Soul, and some of the old renaissance Mixes...
But my one true passion,.. lies solidly with my Trance,.. im a big trance nut and the harder and darker ,... the better.
COSMIC GATE!!!!! DUMONDE, and some of my favourite hard trance dj's , Scott Project, Nick Sentience, Steve Blake, K-90 , Joff Roach, Paul Glazby, Steve Tomas, Legend B,.. man the list grows extremely long
Right at this very moment im listening to the latest Bonkers Release a Triple Cd mix of HardCore - quite uptempo, rampaging rythyms,.. usually with nice chick voices singin wise words over some sick trancey bits,..
Also an upcoming band to keep an eye on will be " DIGITAL NEWAGE " who are the guys that did the songs and music for the E3 Dvd - they are a thrash metal orientated duo,.. who enlisted a trance DJ from Germany to put some sick beats behind there thrashing, chunking riffs,.. makes for a sweeeeeeeet combo,..
Anyone who knows me in the real world knows that any music discussions I get involved in usually end up in me pouring crap all over some band. I'm fairly narrow minded when it comes to music :)
http://www.boomspeed.com/sorcerorbob/sbslist.htm
Heres my current winamp playlist.. About the only constant on that list is Disturbed, most the other stuff gets rotated once a fortnight to keep it fresh..
Other junk I listen too..
Segression, Sevendust, mudvayne, pantera, liquid, henry's anger, occasionally if I'm in the mood I'll let some tool or deftones slip into my playlist.
Never realised you were so angry Bob. hehe
Must be great mood music when your on dates with the ladies.[:P]
I'm pretty eclectic with my tastes, everything from beethoven to Basment Jaxx to Beastie Boys to Cradle of Filth.
The only music I don't like is Pimp R'n'B, Euro pop and most importantly that angsty, girly, teen punk that everyone likes!!
The Sex Pistols vs Blink 182...hmmm, which is real punk? Which is "Middle America, I come from a good home but hate life." dribble?

Ahhh. Are you talking about Avril Lavigne? She's cute but her music sucks and she's so produced it shits me. I read an article that classed her as Tetris Pop, seems very appropriate, L.A Reid found a niche and filled it. 13 million albums later...
As for my tastes in music I am first and foremost a Metallica fan (even got tickets to the concert in January[:p]).
Other music includes: Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Korn, Sound Garden, Rage against the Machine, Audioslave, Foo Fighters, Hoobastank, Tool, A Perfect Circle, COG, P.O.D, Nirvana, The Blood Hound Gang, Alien Ant Farm, Crazytown, Pantera, Slipknot, SilverChair (old stuff only), Hell is for Heroes, Jimmy Eat World, Faith No More, Grinspoon, The Living End (I'm going to the concert at the Castle Hill Tavern on the 12th[:p]), Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Megadeath, Creed...etc.
Edit: forgot Sevendust, Alkiline Trio, Blink 182, Sum 41, Red Hot chilli peppers, Pappa Roach, Guns and Roses...
Strange mix but I don't care.
Hmm... here goes
Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, A Perfect Circle, Metallica, Guns n Roses, John Butler Trio, Powderfinger, Tool, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog, Superjesus, Faith No More, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine.
Pearl Jam are easily my fave band, their tour earlier this year was awesome. Their live shows are like no others I've seen, they have a completely different energy about them.
Was ultra pissed that A Perfect Circle dropped from the Big Day Out, they were virtually the only reason I wanted to go. Metallica just aren't a big enough draw card for me, especially with the recent release of St Anger. What the fuck were they thinking, not one guitar solo!
As you can see I'm very much into guitar based rock. No recent rock offerings have really sparked my interest, its all so simple and boring these days. Don't like pop and I can't stand rap at all.
Malus: I'm a fluffy bunny :D. I just listen to music that can curdle milk. My taste in music hasn't been a problem with girlfriends either, if they want to listen to music, I put on an old offspring CD, or put the radio on.
Rumour is that Metallica are the reason Perfect Circle were dropped.. Metallica wanted to be the only headliners.
MC, You may want to try System of a Down.. Some of their songs, you may have to ignore the lyrics - damn fruity singer.. But in general, they are one of the few bands whose new stuff is actually better than their older songs. Nice chunky riffs, and songs that aren't just a couple of chords slapped together. *cough* blink182 */cough*
Older Pantera stuff has some very nice guitar work too, not so much solos, but great riffage.. Listen to art of shredding.. Very very fast.. Their newer stuff sucks balls though.
Though, if you like solos, you may want to look back a couple of decades.. Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.. Lots of solos.. Good ones too.. Impressive considering Tony Iommi(Sabbath Guitarist) lost parts of his chord making hand in an accident, and played alot of their early gigs with home made plastic prosthetics.
Yeah, heard a lot of System from friends, got some of their songs too. They definately are a lot better than some of the stuff out now, but I'm still working on getting into their music properly.
All the 70's stuff I love. My mum is a big zepplin, deep purple, sabbath, etc.. fan, so we've got a lot of old LP's around that I throw on now and then. Forgot to add these fellas to my list, since I was looking at my CD and MP3 collection while listing artists! :)
EDIT: Fuck Metallica, that is so typical of them. They are pretty much the only band I know of whose main intention was to make money, and have very much suceeded at it. Arseholes.
Early Metallica is alright, like Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice for All. Load, and Reload, well I consider them to be "country" genre albums, not metal, Black is alright but I don't listen to it much. S&M is good because it actually sounds good!
However their newest stuff is crap I'd have to say, and Lars pisses me off with his smug attitude and his MP3 bashing etc.
A Perfect Circle is alright, they're *very* arty, which is cool. It's a pity that they're not coming, but I'd rather let MJK work on another Tool album :-).

HAHA. Who wouldn't. The thing that makes Tool so good though is the waiting four years for their next album. I would much rather wait four years for a fantastic album then have an alright album churned out on a yearly basis. I liked A Perfect Circle's albums as they keep up with Tool's tradition of having a very different sound for every album.
I just wish that NIN would tour over here. I have heard a lot of their/his (what the hell do class NIN as now?) stuff live, and it sounds great.

true enough, but i wouldnt mind fantastic albums churned out yearly either [;)]
Ooooo. I know of VERY few bands who can churn out albums on a yearly basis. Most just end up sounding the same.
Seeing as though there are a few Tool fans here, what is your fav album of theirs. Most people have different tastes and I would like to know. I personally think that Aenema is their best, followed very closely by Lateralus and Salival.
Speakers for sure over headphones, just can't get good enough quality out of headphones as far as I've experienced...but I live out a fair ways so I have the advantage that neighbours can't complain if I play loud music all night.
