Tsumea Modeller Challenge 10 - Sevendust

Journal Category

Well, apparently I have posted my original thread wrong *pout* ..so I will re-post my character development info here. NB: My original idea was posted at 6:54am on Monday 04/08.

"I have been putting a lot of thought into what I want to stare at for the next four months.. I still don't have my character history set in stone just yet.

I once had a dream that I was walking through some of the rougher streets of an area I used to live in. It was very late into the night, quite dark, no company in the streets.. just silence and street lamps. One street lamp in particular revealed a beaten up looking greyhound under its light. It had a strangely twisted collar around its neck made of steel, with some other large claw like pieces of steel protruding from its shoulders, and some wounds. The dog looked over to me from across the street as he started to walk towards me. Eerily, the creature said in a loud but whisperish voice "psssycho!". Quite creepy - and I hope that this doesn't mean that I'm a psycho for real! But anyway, I would love to bring this character to life. Of course, it has to be set in a more realistic fashion, so I plan to have a "driver".

The driver, or controller, of this creature is going to be a young woman. I am going to go along the lines of most of the Batman type villains - they all have something a bit wrong with them upstairs. I haven't decided what mental disorder she has yet. Perhaps as a child she was subjected to see her dogs put through hell by her family - torture, punishment, dog fights maybe.

This woman is going to have hundreds of greyhounds. To implement the talking idea from the dream, she has attached speakers to all of their collars. So when she is going after someone, she sends her dogs in first and talks through them.

Things to leave behind at the scene could be:
-lots of little puppies with the big collars on
-dog tags
-collar
-a leash, or chain

Things that could motivate her to kill:
-people that put animals up for show (horse racing, dog fighting etc)
-animal cruelty
-someone or something being subjected to unreasonable punishment

Going to think a bit more on it today, I would like to start drawing her up soon :)"

The image I attached to this post is my first pencil sketch of her. Sadly, she has no name right now.

After discussing my character with my boyfriend, we decided she doesn't look evil enough - especially her dogs. He referred to the greyhound on the right as something out of bambi!

So, I am going to do a little redrawing on the dogs.

I have decided she will have two main leader type dogs, bodyguards. She will have hundreds of others, but they are just minions.

The bodyguards will be wearing huge war type armour - something like the lion out of Brotherhood of the Wolf. The minions will be wearing less and less armour, depending on their rank.

This brings more of a pack feel to it, I think. Hopefully will get some new drawings up today :)

I've finally got a concept, still ironing it out but the gist of it is:

My villain was a cyclist, obsessed with performance and will do anything that will give him the edge. He was very frail as a child and was looked down upon by the other kids. Now the tables have turned and his hate makes him strong. That and the drugs, witch are the reason he doesn't compete anymore, having been banned for life by the Anti Doping Committee. In his quest for performance he has succumbed to performance enhancing drugs, without witch he would struggle to even breath, the key to his power has locked him in cage, eating him alive. Slowly dieing in his empty shell, madness draws parallels in his mind, just as people formed the path of his destruction, so too is the planet slowly being to choked by the emissions of countless cars. The weak rule the world, while the strong are seen as outcasts. Out of the corner of his eye he sees the glint of a syringe. His purpose is now clear, in order to save humanity from itself, it must be culled. With the syringe in his hand, he walks into the night. Judgement begins.

hey there, my name sam and I’m a new comer to sumea. at the moment I’m studying at the AIE doing the Advance Dip in games.

so after introducing myself this is my idea for the Sumea Modeller Challenge #10. it's still in there air and i think he might be to fantasy to fit in with the brief.

anyways his name is Malcolm fletch aka parasite, the story begins when Malcolm was young he developed an immense case of elephantiasis of the foot and arm. after seeing many doctors Malcolm discovered a new treatment that hadn't been tested on humans before. the idea developed by MTS corp. (medical treatment studies corporation) was that to fight this parasite with another parasite. this new treatment was given to 20 different people with elephantiasis and after a few hours they were cured, we'll for a while. after a few days all of the test subjects died, all but Malcolm. the parasite in Malcolm body began to get bigger and more aggressive and this new super parasite took over his body and his mind. now Malcolm, wants to infect those who made him how he is by injecting them with his blood. the reason why is because he wants the scientist at MTS to develop what he has so that they feel the urgency of making a cure. but unfortunately the anomaly does not happen to any of the people he infects they just die after a few hours.

Adam Dobson's Art Work

Here is my current body of work starting from the beginning of the year, I will keep adding to it as I complete other art pieces. I am just about to start a Diploma of Advertising and Graphic Design at a Tafe here in SA, which should be some fun =).
Any comments or questions about any of the pieces would be most welcome, it is the best way to improve and be motivated!
I am also looking for work which I guess half the people on this site are =P.
Regards Adam.

I've neglected my Sumea profile again... it's been so long I see that the website has grown an extra letter since the last time I uploaded anything.

Most of what I've been doing is 2D but I might eventually upload some of my older level work (and perhaps newer).

I'm also going to be at Animania in Sydney later this month.

By Crom Age of Conan is beginning to come together

Journal Category

A report from FunCom, Oslo.

After two years working on this project, Age of Conan is finally beginning to look and feel like a game. What I'm most proud of course, is that we've managed to develop a thoroughly unique look and feel for the world itself, on ehtat is faithful to Howards' work.

We've spent a great deal of time fleshing out the respective cutlures past and present, and we've endeavoured to put them into context, showing influences and what not. Moreover, we've striven to make the world look 'lived-in' - the problem with many games, MMO's especially - is that everyting looks as though it was built yesterday. This won't be the case with Age of Conan.

As concept artist I've had the task of designing most of the environments, which I hope to show here soonish, most of the weapons, a fair portion of armour, and the occasional creature. :)

Polish continues and well as the completion of the parts of Hyboria we'll be releasing but I hope these give you some idea of what we''re trying to achieve. Some of the screens don't do the visuals justice and also the game has made great visual strides in the past month with the implementation of new tech:

Well it's been a while since i've contributed, Age of Conan keeps me busy, especially since being made asistant art director on the project. There hasn't been much time for personal work at all. However, I do have a few pieces in the pipelie and I also hope to post some recent professional work if FunCom allows.

This piece was completed in a day - began as a sketch. The original is 2000x4000 @ 300dpi.

general image update

Journal Category

I don't seem to keep my journal very up-to-date with what I am producing. So it's high time to do a bit of an update... and here it is!

some sketchbook environments in pen, a second GTA style illustration just to prove the first wasn't a fuke and the final of a character protrait.

I don't think I ever posted the final protrait in the forum. It was a long and painful process finishing it, but much thanks goes to those that posted criticism, I would have never finished the project to such a high quality (high for me at least) with out the help and encouragement.

whilst waiting for the next quick 2d activity I though I would 'doodle' a face in a few spare hours. Things got a little out of hand and a more or less finished painting have been the result.

Created in Painter with a little Photohshop and Illustrator along the way.
