Endgame Studios

Anyone remember Slidatron? It was a highly innovative cartoony dual-screen platformer for The Nintendo DS by the then-new indie studio startup, Endgame Studios. While many of the unique aspects of the original Slidatron may look fairly common now, it certainly wasn't back then.

The first week has ended for the 2011 Play Well Cup, a 6-week Starcraft 2 tournament between local games developers and online/media companies, with all donations and proceeds going to the Child's Play charity. It's an exciting event instigated by James Croft who was inspired by the work of popular Starcraft 2 game casters on youtube as well as the distinct lack of local Starcraft 2 action.

Flash flooding in Prahran, Friday night, 4th Feb 2011

On Friday evening, I left the Endgame office in Richmond at 7.15pm for a dinner appointment on Chapel St, Prahran at 8pm (a couple of suburbs away).

At 7.20pm, the remnants of Cyclone Yasi hit Melbourne with torrential rain, some 2500 kms away from where Yasi landed in Australia.

Visibility was the worst I've ever seen (maybe 20 metres) and traffic slowed to a crawl, with many motorists pulling off to the side, unable to see well enough to continue driving. By the time I reached Malvern Road, the police had already blocked it off due to flash flooding. So I turned around and parked in Williams Road, with the goofy idea to walk the few blocks to Chapel St "when I caught a break in the rain" - I figured Chapel St was mostly undercover due to the shopping district so I should be ok...

Catching my break in the rain (or so I thought), I set out. Here is some of the footage of Prahran as I made the arduous journey to Chapel St. Captured on my iPhone in some pretty dreadful conditions, so the picture quality is not brilliant.

Despite my determination to make the dinner appointment, it didn't happen.

Endgame Studios utilising Google Wave for development

Submitted by souri on Wed, 28/07/2010 - 1:49pm

Anyone remember all the hype for Google Wave? While Google had shown off it's many collaborative aspects for social implications (the sharing photos and conversations in real-time with your circle of friends), many developers saw its potential for software development. Unfortunately, we haven't heard much about its use in the game development space, but local Melbourne game developer, Endgame Studios, is definitely making use of the service.

Trailer for the DS game "Fractured Soul" by Endgame Studios, July 2010.

Fractured Soul is a classic platform game with a unique twist: gameplay is across both screens of the DS at once! Each of the 5 worlds has something new on the second screen - different physics, gravity, or heat damage, for example. There are also shmup sections that use both screens.

If you'd like to know more, or ask any questions of us, please visit our website and join our twitter feed. We'll keep you up-to-date with the latest on Fractured Soul's development and release schedule. And being gamers ourselves, we love to hear feedback from other gamers about our games!
