Kotaku AU's rumour report on 10 staff retrenchments at Australia's leading mobile developer has been met with a quick rebuttal from Firemint's community manager, Sam Mayo.

The rumour suggested that as much as 10 employees from Melbourne-based Firemint, mostly non-managerial roles such as artists as well as a producer, were let go on Thursday and Friday this week.

Firemint is a world leading iPhone and iPad game development studio. Our award-winning games Flight Control, Real Racing and SPY mouse have been immensely successful and have enabled us to work exclusively on our own original titles.

Firemint – a global leader in the iPhone and iPad game market – is looking for experienced Quality Assurance testers on a contract basis for testing game software on Apple iOS devices and other platforms. Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.

The first week has ended for the 2011 Play Well Cup, a 6-week Starcraft 2 tournament between local games developers and online/media companies, with all donations and proceeds going to the Child's Play charity. It's an exciting event instigated by James Croft who was inspired by the work of popular Starcraft 2 game casters on youtube as well as the distinct lack of local Starcraft 2 action.

It's certainly been a long wait for a new original title by the studio that brought us Flight Control and Real Racing, but Melbourne based developers, Firemint, have released their long awaited new title, Spy Mouse. It's been two years in the making, and as you can see, it boasts some incredibly beautiful and stylish art, typically appropriate music, and it features the intuitive line-drawing mechanics pioneered by their breakout title, Flight Control.
