The Getaway delayed due to censorship

The Getaway is a game that has been in production for a long time, and contains a detailed reconstruction of the city of London to roam around in. It's also a title that will no doubtly be compared to Grand Theft Auto 3 in terms of its gameply. And like the GTA series, it becomes the latest in a string of titles to go under the censors knife. Gamepower reports..

"...Office of Film and Literature Classification issues had delayed the game?s release, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia representatives told Game Power Australia this afternoon that the game has in fact been censored for the Australian release, in order to ensure an MA15+ rating.

Apparently, the edits only concern sections of the game?s cut scenes, not the actual gameplay. The Getaway is the fourth game in a year to fall victim to Australia?s archaic censorship laws, as Australia is one of the only Western countries that has no R18+ rating (or equivalent) for video games, following the rejection of an appeal last month."

Special Reserve has had this to say about the whole situation..

"Gamers have it pretty bad in Australia, it seems their goverment is intent on wrapping all of the biggest videogames in cotton wool before releasing them, and the latest title to be censored in Oz is The Getaway."
