Who said learning has to be boring? There is a revolution under way - it's called Serious Games, and it's here now!
Aimed at stimulating student interest in dynamic and proactive careers, the Serious Games Training & Employment Expo brings together the expertise, innovation and know-how of a wide range of organisations to create training and employment opportunities for the benefit of South Australia's innovative, creative, enthusiastic and highly talented young people. The expo will explore the many opportunities that exist to allow them to find a career beyond the world of video games, fulfil their potential and make a real difference in the world.
It was small but good. Industry talks (which I didn't attend but know and have great respect for some of the speakers) and displays divided into 2 section of education focussed and industry representatives doing show and tells. Well worth a quick visit.
The education section had various tafe and Uni representatives with (live) displays of 3d modelling and some interesting setups of other uni projects. The highlight in that section for me was a haptic work bench with a medical tongue depressor interactive.
The industry section had a few companies from around town showing off their recent projects. It was a shame there weren't a few more companies there representing the industry but the small scale made an intimate atmosphere ideal to chatting to the various representatives. There were government and MEGA people there too making it a valuable networking event.
For those not aware of the 'serious game' industry in Adelaide. It is surprisingly large and varied. It has also proven to be a much more stable industry than the local entertainment gaming industry.
