Video game graphics are fast approaching the realism you find in cinemas today. The games industry is bent on creating characters with the full spectrum of facial expressions, with skin that reflects and absorbs light from all the surroundings and where movements have subtlety as well as action.

Don?t miss this session which will take you into the forefront of graphics in the video game and animation industry and give you a sound basis for understanding how to get started with 3D graphics.

Stephen Gray from ACT3ANIMATION (http://www.act3animation.com) will update you with all the latest approaches to animating for both games and film, discuss the fundamental differences and introduce you to the 'Uncanny valley' - a theory of what makes us believe graphics are 'real'.

Eve Penford-Dennis has a vast background in game graphics and now teaches game graphics at the Academy of Interactive Entertainment (http://www.aie.vic.edu.au). Eve will discuss the practicalities of designing and building game graphics, define the principals of 3d graphics and walk you through the basics of creating your game characters.

The information presented is tailored to secondary and tertiary multimedia, arts and media and ICT students yet also provides invaluable information for all game enthusiasts. Eve Penford-Dennis Senior Art Tutor, Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE)
Eve has been working as an artist in the game industry since 1992. Originally from the UK, has worked for a variety of British game developers, including Psygnosis and System 3, before moving to Melbourne to work at Infogrames. As a developer Eve has worked on a variety of titles for Xbox, Playstation, Playstation 2 and Dreamcast consoles, as well as for the PC. As Senior Art Tutor at the AIE?s Melbourne Campus she lectures students in 3D graphics with courses ranging from the fundamentals of 3D, to specialised 3D for game development. Eve is also heavily involved in Women In Games, mentoring women who are interested in pursuing a career in the games industry.

Stephen Gray Senior Animator at ACT3ANIMATION
After completing a Degree in Industrial Design at Swinburne University in 2001 Stephen worked as a designer and 3D animator in industrial design. Stephen joined ACT3ANIMATION in 2002 and has rapidly become a Senior Animator, specialising in character animation and advanced rigging. Stephen has since been involved in six FMV productions and a series of TV commercials. ACT3ANIMATION is one of Australia's leading character animation studios.
