Sunshine Coast University chummy with Big Ant

Company

Move over Qantm and QUT, it looks like the University of the Sunshine Coast is making headway on getting their students into game development jobs too. It also helps that nearby the campus is the new Queensland studio of Big Ant Studios.

The Courier Mail reports that the new studio is currently running with 30 staff and hopes to expand to 84 in the next four years, with a good number of students from the USC Innovation Centre expected to be recruited on a part time basis.

From the Courier Mail...

Big Ant Studios CEO Ross Symons says the studio fulfils his criteria of proximity to a strong gaming sector and a strong student population.

Apparently they also hired most of RMIT gaming graduates last year for the melbourne studio also.

I'm guessing Big Ant like their juniors.

We took 3 students from RMIT this year - the 3 that won prizes for their work. I think there are about 80 odd staff here, I'd say around 10 are juniors.

In any case I'm really glad that Ross likes to try and invest in local talent along with those we get from the UK, otherwise I wouldn't have got a job :)

There's quite a difference between the 80 staff that you say work there and the 30 staff as reported in the Courier Mail. Typo?

The Melbourne office has 80 staff.... my understanding is that the Sunshine Coast office is the smaller, newer office.
