Dissecta Event: Heroes of the Pacific at ACMI

Calling all dedicated game players:

Heroes of the Pacific

22 November 2005 @ 7 pm to 8:30 pm, Melbourne
At the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Federation Square

Melbourne, 9 November 2005 - Local game developer IR Gurus will discuss their latest video game, Heroes of the Pacific, at Dissecta's last event for 2005, to be held Tuesday 22 November at ACMI, Federation Square.

Heroes of the Pacific, for Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PC, has been receiving excellent reviews since release late this year. Game Informer, North America's largest paid circulation games publication said in its review: "Heroes of the Pacific focuses on the aerial component of that war [WW2], and pulls it off with such finesse that it deserves a spot alongside such great WWII titles as the Call of Duty and Brothers in Arms franchises. Although Heroes is far from the first WWII flight sim, it soars high above other games thanks to its incredible attention to detail. (8.75 out of 10)."

Independently produced by Melbourne based IR Gurus Interactive, Heroes of the Pacific has also been lauded by the game industry as a star example of project finance. Veteran US game designer and commentator Greg Costikyan recently put forward Heroes of the Pacific as an example of how game developers can find their own funding for new games, in a recent article entitled "Death to the Games Industry, Long Live Games Part II" published by The Escapist, the online game culture magazine; it is notable that Heroes was the only project finance example put forward by Costikyan.

Dissecta is pleased to announce that Heroes of the Pacific producers Ben Palmer and Justin Halliday will be the key guests at 'Heroes of the Pacific' 22 November 2005, at the ACMI Screen Pit, Federation Square Melbourne, to discuss how they made the game.

Dissecta Founder Tim Richards said "Heroes of the Pacific is a stunning realisation of a dream to make blockbuster quality video games, and we are delighted to have the developer, IR Gurus, discuss the project at Dissecta @ ACMI. Dissecta has hosted five game industry events since June this year, and we are very happy to end this year's Dissecta program with Heroes of the Pacific, one of the best games to come out of an Australian studio this year."
