An Australian Video Game Expo and Tournament - NEE

(Yug posted in the forum)

Ever feel like being a gamer in Australia means being second best to pretty much everywhere else in the world? It takes months for games to arrive here after being released in the states, major 'worldwide' console launches tend to ignore us, ... hell even NEW ZEALAND has an R18+ rating for games.

What we DO have though is a collection of fantastic online and offline gaming communities, some of the best local game developers on the planet, and a country full of people who are dedicated and passionate gamers.

As a gamer and as the part time collaborator of a gaming website, I'd like to ask for your input for a potentially massive gaming AUSTRALIAN ONLY event and expo that will be happening soon. I'm not trying to market this or spin it in any way, I simply want to know the answers to a few questions, the main one being:

AS A GAMER, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO SEE AT AN AUSTRALIAN VIDEO GAME EVENT / EXPO / COMPETITION?

How about a massive 36 hour Xbox 360 tournament with an obscene amount of prizemoney? How about the equivilant of an 'Australian E3' but targeted towards GAMERS not the industry? How about playing the latest games before they've even been released in the states?

Give me your opinions, your ideas, your feedback. This is an event which has the potential to be defined by YOU, the Australian Gamer :)

I'm going to post this on a few gaming forums, just a heads up for anyone who thinks I am 'SPAMMING'. Cause I am. Definately. I want to hear feedback from as many different people and places as possible!

Thanks!

An Australian equivilant of E3 would be awesome and perhaps target both gamers and the industry. I'd like to think there would certainly be enough interest and support here in Australia for something like this to go ahead.

It's just not possible. Even E3 itself is no longer possible as it was. Sorry, but it's the truth.

Take a look at CBit, and apply it to games, or take Atomic Live, and make it more games focused, and less tech.

There are existing events, that can be turned due to there early nature, into more games focused events, personally, I would not mind seeing some Publisher Satellites, invest along side AMD, and NVIDIA into Atomic Live 06.

Well what ever happened to this game connect thing we're supposed to have in Brisbane? Why can't we just get one big event rather than trying to get multiple events going on every year? Maybe this is why game connect is stuffed up, because no one in this industry is genuinely interested in cooperating and collaberating on anything. It's all talk and fake smiles.

This is a funny way to illustrate industry support. If we had every event every one has wanted we'd have a dozen of them and all of us would be burnt out. All this political nonsense is killing the industry.

I have watched GO3 in the west taking shape. They are IGDA supported, & I take my hat of too them. They are well prepared, & still 6 months out.
The list of speakers they allready have have certainly attracted some attention.

Perth seems like a great place, I would love a weekend over their, & because of the close location to Asian I would imagine a huge contingent will come accross the water from Hong Kong , Singapore, Japan.

so, I would urge all of the developers & Publishers to get behind this one......

& game interested folks, your well catered for too...

they are the only ones that are trying to increase overseas people to come take a look at our industry, & inrease the pool, rather than carve it up amongst our selves....

Well done to the Team from IGDA in Perth.....GO3,

The problem with Game Connect Asia Pacific is, the people organising it are doing a really poor job. have a look, they have opened registrations, told us who is speaking, but there isn't a program. wtf am i paying for? for all i know i could be going to see the lead programmer of pandemic talking about how he likes to plant flowers....
