The Greater Brisbane IGDA Chapter LAN meeting

Company

by Mick Gordon - Social Director Greater Brisbane IGDA, 11/10/04

Isnt it interesting how much entertainment can be derived from running around in a virtual world with a large, probably overpriced weapon, killing and mutilating all of your mates? This is exactly what the Greater Brisbane IGDA Chapter was experimenting with at the latest meeting.

  • Kyle (Student) in the ChilLAN lobby

September 4th saw the Greater Brisbane IGDA Chapter having its forth meeting as a relaxing venture away from milestone madness at the wonderful ChilLAN lounge and pool bar in Mt Gravatt. There was about 20 of us who showed up on what was a dark, dreary and wet Saturday afternoon. There were members from Krome, Auran, Fuzzyeyes, Lava Injection and a few students all eager to, well, kill and conquer. And after the initial meet, greet and drink, thats exactly what we did.

  • Jake (Krome) cooking away w hile Mathew (Auran) eyes up some food.

ChilLAN have a large upstairs room with about 20 machines and a whole array of games which attracted most of us into a Battlefield 1942: Desert Combat war producing some great smiles and serious faces. Meanwhile, downstairs, an Xbox found its way to a large television screen for some enjoyable one-on-one fights, while others played pool and just, well, chilled out.

After more warfare from Unreal Tournament 2004 and Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne, we had all developed a large appetite and decided to fire up that BBQ in the rain and share thoughts about games, work, ideas, and all things digital. After devouring our meals and cleaning up, Ben from ChilLAN offered two free t-shirts to the winners of an Unreal battle, so off we went for more games.

  • Mick (Lava Injection) and Caleb (Fuzzyeyes) taking things very seriously

It was a great afternoon which was enjoyed all and certainly let some steam off from the busy development life which we all love.

If anyone would like to be a part of the Greater Brisbane IGDA Chapter, head on over to the IGDA website and become a member (there is free membership) and then venture towards the Brisbane forum and introduce yourself. As you can see, its great fun!
