Harvey Normans Expensive Playstation3 Display

Harvey Norman is making headlines in console news again when a customer noticed something very odd about the Playstation 3 display at a store in Bondi Junction. The pre-order advertisement was a print out of a Playstation 3 console which was conveniantly stuck on an... Xbox 360 console. The Sydney Morning Herald has the story with the chap who made the discovery...

"I saw the [PS3] display and thought, 'that's a really shocking display' - I just thought I've got to get some snaps and send it off to [gaming news blog] Joystiq."

"I mean who are they kidding - it's a pretty high profile store in a high profile location," Kain said.

Now, I don't know much about displays, but I can come up with a few cheaper alternatives to stick that print-out on. Say, the wall, a $499.90 television, a rock, or perhaps even have an employee hold it.

News travelled pretty fast about the amazing display, and it soon got to Sony Australia who remarked it as "alarming news". I'd imagine their PR person wrote that during fits of laughter. Microsoft, however, gave no response, but one would guess that they're not totally wild about the whole idea.

You could say the effectiveness of displays just got greater, and one can only imagine the potential of Xbox 360 console's holding up other product advertisements. Bad idea? Well, what would draw a consumers attention for a closer look than to a display that that was propped up by an expensive console. Can you imagine rows and rows of these displays? Pure marketing genius!

The Sydney Morning Herald has since reported that the display has indeed been taken down, and one wonders what will become of the famous item. Ebay?
