GAME ON PARTY

Don’t miss the party as game lovers and party goers take over the State Library of Queensland for a playful celebration of videogaming featuring live music by Yeo and the Fresh Goods and DJ sets by DJ Tr!p (Adel.). Look out for new media installations and vj sets by Jaymis Loveday (CreateDigitalMotion), play-offs with world-first Herovision and Rock Band, cash bar, and exclusive late night access to the exhibition.

Yeo Choong – mastermind behind Yeo and The Fresh Goods – makes music with mathematical precision. So much so that the world’s defining blogsite of cool, thecoolhunter.net, branded his debut album, Trouble Being Yourself, as nerdier than N.E.R.D. With sneaky horns, hand-claps and Super Mario samples, Yeo and The Fresh Goods produce music of a soul, reggae and electro funk-laced folky rock pop, cool indie-edge feel, with mainstream appeal. Catchy, cheeky and good fun, Yeo's sagely naïve everyman charm pulls together for a uniquely delightful showcase.

DJ TR!P is an independent electronic musician who creates & composes for an eclectic range of projects. TR!P performs his music live & also works as a DJ, remix artist & composer for theatre, dance, film & radio. TR!P started composing on a Commodore Amiga, the 8bit computer helping him to discover his signature style via its limited & gritty obsolete sound palette. He uses pure synthetic sound and also works with session musicians to gather raw material for his compositions.

I would have gone if Game Connect exhibitors were given tickets :(

You had to get registered really early. I guess they didn't want to overbook the opening party that was on from 6pm to 7pm, and judging by the number of people that were there, I think they had just the right amount of people in so it wasn't too crowded. You still could've gone to the exhibition on that night, however, so from 7pm til 10pm, you could've enjoyed the exhibition. There was music, drinks, and entertainment to be had still.

I tried to get registered, but it was already booked out. Luckily, someone from Yug's entourage skipped out, and he kindly gave me the spot! The party and the exhibition was great, and there were some awesome development stuff on Pokemon and Grand Theft Auto III displayed as well. That Capcom mech game for the Xbox with the expensive and complicated looking controller was there also, and it sure didn't look too noobie friendly. After seeing so many classic games, I am dying to build or buy a Mame cabinet now.
