Mygen reports that, in accordance to Gfk Australia’s statistics, the Xbox 360 has had its biggest grossing week in console hardware sales since it hit Australia’s shores in March.
According to figures, in the week ending on the 13th of December, the 360 console generated AU$2.6 million in the lead-up to Christmas. With the addition of extra console accessories and Xbox games, that weekly figure rises to AU$5.8 million. David McLean, Regional Director Xbox Australia and New Zealand, said the following:
In terms of retail revenue, Xbox 360 has generated around $145 million in ANZ this year. We’re pleased to report that despite new competition in the market, sales are showing no signs of slowing down. I put this down to a combination of three things – demonstrable value for money backed by powerful hardware, plus a huge range of next-generation games and accessories.
Jason Hill wrote and article titled 'Don't be fooled' about this press release in his Screenplay blog last week. I suggest that you check it out.
Yeah. I was just thinking the same thing - $2.6mill is only about 3 or 4,000 X360s. If you want a comparison, the Wii sold just under 40,000 in one week which equates to about $16mill.
Yup, I've read Jason's article.
I was simply posting the stats that were reported, rather than weighing into the 'console war'. Though, I would suggest anyone who is interested to go check it out here: http://blogs.theage.com.au/screenplay/archives/004591.html
