PlayStation 3 hits the US to excitement, chaos and gunfire

As you probably know already, the PlayStation 3 and Wii have just launched in the US. Australian IT reports that:

One man (at the PS3 launch) was shot in a robbery attempt while waiting with 15 to 20 people outside a Connecticut Wal-Mart shop.
He was shot after refusing to hand over money to two armed men. He was in serious condition at a Massachusetts hospital, police said.

In other news, the Wii launch was far less violent, with Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime dropping into a Toys R Us store to sell and autograph the first unit.

There was a Wal-Mart that had to close up because too many people were brawling and fighting over cutting in or something. Pople got shot elsewhere with BB guns as well. Crazy Americans!

It was fun... but I find it more interesting that the Wii had a much saner release with more hype focused on the gameplay than the price / status of actually getting a console.

The PS3 launch was made much worse because of the very limited number of consoles, bringing out the huge numbers of scalpers and nutjobs who saw some ebay and mugging opportunities because of it..... and yet people were still willing to pay absurd numbers for it on ebay.

I always knew there'd be suckers paying Sony to beta test the PS3.

Did you see the latest where the majority of people lining up for PS3 were looking to resell them while the Wii customers were looking to actually play it? What a novel idea.

How embarrasing for Sony to have to reduce to 480p because you cant get games to play at 780. So it's either big time tv or crap. Might as well just get a Wii and get some exercise.

After all looks like some of us need it, can't even keep a grip on the remote. I suggest double-sided sticky tape. Perhaps a golfing glove as well.
