Sumea Wiki

I have a new service up on Sumea which I'm very excited about. You'll find some links to Sumea wiki around the site, namely in the news, developer profiles, developer games, and education profile pages. Clicking on the link will take you to Sumea's wiki information service where you can research or update / contribute to that related information yourself.

Why have a Sumea wiki? I know in the past, lots of people and agencies have used the information that Sumea has on developers and the local industry for research. However, I'll be the first to admit that the information we have isn't too comprehensive, and I'd love to spend all day, everyday researching and putting up as much information on every developer, each of their games, the education institutions around, and anything else on the local industry, but I'd end up pretty insane in the end. It's just way too much work for one guy! This way, absolutely anyone can update the info on Sumea. Developers can freely update their profile information and game details, and the public can contribute what they can whenever they like. Sounds good, yes?!

To steal a few paragraphs on why wiki is so successful...

The concept of a Wiki Wiki (or 'Wiki' for short) is that the quality of content improves when everyone is allowed, even encouraged, to author and refactor any page.

Wikis don't work if people aren't bold . You've got to get out there and make those changes, correct that grammar, add those facts, and make that language precise. It's okay - it's what everyone expects. So you should never ask, "Why aren't these pages copyedited?" - you should just fix it. It does require some amount of politeness, but amazingly it works.

So start getting bold, people! Hopefully we can make push the bar higher on Sumea as the best resource on the Australian and New Zealand industry. There's also a great opportunity to put more info in the wiki other than just developer info and their games, such as Bio's on prominent local game developers themselves, faqs on QA, modelling, programming in games development, and other articles on local issues (such as games censorship).

Currently, I'll be designing a much prettier skin for Sumea wiki in the near future so it isn't as much of an eye sore. I'll also be integrating Sumea wiki to the site so that the wiki info will be replacing what Sumea currently shows for games, developers, education etc. Sumea wiki will indeed be a very important part of the website!
