Australian Release for PSP in September

(From AustralianIT)

FANS of portable games will have to wait four more months before Sony's PlayStation Portable hits the shops here.

Games division Sony Computer Entertainment said the handheld games unit, already a hit in Japan and the US, would go on sale in Australia on 1 September, priced at $429.95.

Sony will include a range of accessories with the PlayStation Portable (PSP) package including a 32MB Memory Stick, headphones, remote control, AC adaptor and games sampler.

No game titles will be included in the pack.

The S429.95 price tag sure is pretty steep...

...especially as its main competition is the Gameboy DS, which can be had for under S200.

No doubt the Sony marketing machine will fire up prior to release and convince everyone that it's the "must have" personal media player. People pay all that money for iPod's because they think they are cool, and no doubt the same will happen with the PSP.

Apparently you can import it now, and for a cheaper price than what it will retail here in September. :/
