Freeplay 2007 on its way!

Submitted by Nextwave

Freeplay, Next Wave's Independent Game Developer's Conference is back for 2007, presenting another diverse program of events that will explore the intersections between new media art and gaming culture.

Supported by Film Victoria and following on from the successes of Freeplay 2004 and Freeplay 2005, this year's conference will be held over one jam-packed day at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Melbourne on Saturday 18th August. Lock it in now!

Ticketing information and further program details will be released in coming months, but as with previous years Freeplay 2007 will be an affordable event delivering keynote lectures from prominent international guests; an investigative lecture program featuring pioneering local speakers; and vital networking opportunities. The conference is designed to cater for indy and DIY game developers, game modders and mappers, creatively frustrated professionals, game development students, animators, and new media artists.

A dedicated Freeplay 2007 blog will be launched by Next Wave in June, but in the meantime please drop us an email at gamers@nextwave.org.au with any ideas you might have for special events or session ideas you would like to see at Freeplay 2007.

Beats the hell out of all the blandness of the AGDC doesn't it #4 :) Not to mention the joys of the famous AIE graduation pukefests. And not to mention the government money that went up in smoke on Jet and Bigworld, and all the digital media fund grants to the "real industry" that produced SO MANY FANTASTIC (and finished) games :)

as soon as you produce something worth boasting about, you can give other people crap for making fun stuff. until then you'll just have to deal with it.

I think you'll find a sizeable proportion of freeplay delegates don't want to work in the games industry, particularly amongst female delegates. Also Arty Farty Crap is far, far better than the Fee for Service Crap wankers like you make.

Its just an excuse to go and catch up with friends who I use to work with. AGDC is just too expensive, but Freeplay we can all meet, have a few drinks and bitch about all the nasty people we use to work with.

Plus its good for the ego seeing so many people want to get into the industry, and I'm already in :P

Good to see this come back for 2007 (even if just for 1 day), pity it was not on in 2006.
