Do Games Technology Graduates have the right skills for the Games Industry?

Student Researcher at University of Ballarat, Julie Ross, is conducting a survey which asks the question "Do Games Technology Graduates have the right skills for the Games Industry?". The questionaire is specifically aimed at people involved in the hiring of graduates, so if you don't fit that criteria, kindly pass it along to someone who does! It'll only take a few minutes to complete and you can do it all anonymously too...

This study will investigate whether games technology graduates have the skills that the games industry requires. The survey requests information about skills your company requires from games technology graduates, the number of employees in your company and where it is located, as well as information about the target platform of the software your company develops.

The results should be released in December 2008, and I think a survey like this is extremely important in helping the local games industry and game development institutions understand more about how prepared graduates are for the games industry.

Nope. They get too many useless units and too little time focusing on stuff we actually want to see.

In all fairness, a couple of those graduates probably do. I know a couple working in the industry now who are doing pretty well for themselves.

None of them thank their degrees, though. Those particular pieces of paper become useless when 90 percent of the graduating class probably shouldn't have made it past the first year.

I'm very interested in the results of this survey.
