We’re Qloud Games, an Australian-based indie game studio with team members hailing from around the world, and we’re developing Loftia.

Loftia blends the creative and cozy elements of beloved titles like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, embedding them within an online, persistent world. It’s our vision to provide a space for players to find their sense of belonging, and work together with the community to work toward a brighter and more hopeful future.

The Role:

As the Technical Artist on the team, you’ll bridge the gap between our art and engineering teams, helping make sure that artistic visions and technical performance align seamlessly. You will be pivotal in enhancing the development workflow, optimizing game assets, and implementing cutting-edge solutions within Unreal Engine 5. Your role will directly impact the efficiency and aesthetic quality of Loftia, shaping an immersive player experience!

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain advanced tools using Python and Unreal Blueprints to improve workflow efficiency for artists.
  • Manage and optimize asset pipelines for Unreal Engine 5, ensuring robust asset management and integration processes.
  • Conduct technical audits and performance profiling to identify and resolve issues, ensuring performance across various platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with both the Art and Engineering teams to research and develop technical solutions that address project-specific and workflow needs.
  • Implement scalable solutions for shaders, dynamic lighting, and asset management to ensure the game runs smoothly on consoles and varying PC hardware.
  • Develop and manage systems for level streaming, Hierarchical Level of Detail (HLOD), and instancing to enhance game performance and visual quality.
  • Keep up to date with new tools and future technologies that can enhance the development process, and proactively integrate them into our workflows.
  • Serve as a technical guide within the art team, facilitating a deeper understanding of Unreal Engine 5’s tools and solutions.
  • Proactively explore and implement new techniques and technologies to push the boundaries of what is possible in game development.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Technical Artist for game development, with strong knowledge of Unreal Engine.
  • Expertise in using Blueprints and Python for creating custom tools and automating tasks.
  • Solid understanding of asset management practices within Unreal and experience with technical auditing and performance profiling.
  • Demonstrated ability in creating and managing shader programs and scalable solutions for a variety of hardware.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and creative team members.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing your technical art skills and previous work within Unreal Engine environments.
  • Keen interest in staying updated with the latest technologies and tools in game development.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with the Houdini Engine for Unreal to create procedural assets and environments.
  • Proficiency in C++ for custom gameplay functionality and performance optimizations.
  • Skills in rigging and animation blueprints to enhance character interactivity.
  • Knowledge of FX creation using Unreal Engine’s Niagara system.
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine’s Procedural Content Generation feature to dynamically generate game content.
  • Past experience with shipping console games.

  • Form of employment: Full-time permanent
  • Employment location: Fully remote – preference for within Australia, but all candidates will be considered
  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • Salary: Competitive market rates – based on experience and location
