Gamer Revolution - ABC

Local Aussie TV station ABC are screening a two part documentary revealing the Gamer Revolution. The first part screens Thursday night at 9:40pm, the second the following Thursday at the same time.

In part one, Gamer Revolution takes viewers around the world from Asia to the heart of the Middle East in search of the most mind-bending stories from the cutting edge of the game revolution. It also features interviews with gamers and game developers including Will Wright, creator of the wildly popular life simulation game, The Sims.

Just how pervasive has gaming become? The US army uses video games to train new recruits and to simulate real-life battle situations in preparation for combat. In Korea, computer nerds are the sex symbols of the 21st century. In Syria, a developer has designed an extremely popular shooter game in which the player gets to kill Israeli soldiers.

Ahh, the good ol' debate of "Guns don't kill people; games do." No doubt we'll see some typical forum napalm flung about, but that always adds a bit of post-viewing entertainment of its own.

    No, he played Nintendogs obsessively.

He reportedly enjoyed the virtual and immediate satisfaction that his cruel actions gave him, that, and Japanese Nintendo gay with its demented kiddy factor. Can drive a man to the most zealous of acts.

They failed to mention that BF2 lets you kill Arabs, Chinese and Americans equally.

its weird that all the documentaries and news articles on games always seem to be focused on the negatives.
i'm sure if you did the same on the negatives of tv/film it would be pretty much the same.

I think its just the flavour of the month really. Terrorism's been quiet lately but Games are experiencing such a boom period at the moment that it'll naturally freak people out, and the media are ravenous for fear because thats where the ratings are. So they'll keep stoking and stoking that fire till games settle in to become a more mainstream part of society and people realise well, that's not so bad after all. Once that happens they'll focus upon the Oil crisis, or rebirth of religious fanaticism, or Metal and Hip Hop, or Attention Deficit Disorder again, until another evolution in games occurs and some guy trying to assimilate his brain with his PC suffers the blue screen of literal death, and games get thrust back into the limelight again. With the media I'm starting to see the relevance of the phrase "Ignore it and it'll go away"
