Scarlet City Studios is an innovative studio based in Kingsland, Auckland in beautiful New Zealand. We like to do things differently; in fact, our byline is "Telling an alternative story". We are all passionate gamers, and we know from first hand experience how immersive and life-changing a good game can be. Our team has fond memories of everything from The Legend of Zelda, Zork, King’s Quest, Commander Keen, GoldenEye, and Command and Conquer to today’s releases.

We’ve been issued a new quest, and we need to add to our party before we can complete it. Our main objective remains the same: to tell an alternative story of how both educational and faith based games can be. That’s our entire gameplan, actually; we are aiming to be the premiere provider of Christian gaming experiences in the world. Our flagship game - The Aetherlight - is brimming with quality art, engaging gameplay, and exceptional design - because we believe in employing skilled people to do great work. When we ask someone to join our raid party we don’t need them to be a Christian, just love gaming and be supportive of our vision.

The quest we’ve been issued is around an exciting new project that will include Augmented Reality, GeoFences, and some other super cool new technologies. We have a team with some awesome Tanks and Healers, but we need a talented and experienced Unity/C# developer who can add serious DPS to the raid and help lead the party.

Your base class should have:

  • Passion for video games, and engaging gameplay experiences
  • Extensive experience with the Unity engine and C# development

Your skill tree and gearing should include:

  • Class specialisation in using AR would be desirable
  • Levelling up in location based development would be helpful
  • +5 points spent in Leadership skills
  • Hours spent in game design dungeons, and a feel for what makes a game fun to play
  • Achievements unlocked in object-oriented design and maintainable code principles
  • Trophy gear or loot showing a passion for quality and an intuitive understanding of smooth and positive player experience
  • Badges in game development processes, as well as techniques such as scrum and kanban
  • Solid gearing for PvE, including headgear enchanted for understanding version control systems such as SVN or GIT
  • PvP experience, to support and give constructive feedback to other developers

Quest Rewards
There will be loot drops commensurate with your level and we will work to make sure you are appropriately geared for every dungeon we run. The Guild Hall you’ll be mustering in is spacious and fun, and we have a great raid party culture, including a team lunch provided once a week because no one wants to run a dungeon hungry. We operate exclusively from the Kingsland server in the Auckland realm, where there’s some great NPC locations like bars, cafes and armories as well as the Western train line, major bus routes and easy access to the motorway to ensure we don’t wear our warlocks out with summon portals.

Code and Visual are looking for an additional HTML5 developer to work with us on a series of mini games for a project that's getting underway right now and should be wrapped up before Christmas - a perfect little addition to your holiday budget!

We need someone with a proven portfolio in developing smooth and professional games that perform at 60fps on a range of devices, both mobile and desktop. Ideally you'd be using Phaser or a similar framework that enables you to have complete creative control over your development and not a template based system that will prevent you from delivering on the brief exactly as it's presented. If you've rolled your own framework which has been battle tested and proven on previous projects this would do just as well.

Any additional experience building cross platform (or at least for iOS) mobile apps/games would be an advantage for additional projects but not necessarily needed for this job.

The 3-4 games required would fall into the "super casual" category with very quick and simple interactivity that would probably fit within a banner ad. The job is for immediate start and you'll need to hit the ground running as we have a tight, but very doable timeline.

Remote work is totally fine for this job however we do require someone based in Australia, preferably Sydney.

We'll be looking for a job quote on this so please get in contact if your'e interested and we'll provide briefing material for you to review and provide a costing for.

YOU
We are seeking to build a small group of talented game developers who are interested in using their skills to make a significant difference. Guided by industry professionals it’s time to use our skills for more than just fun, it’s time to change the world.

THE CHALLENGE
In the recent World Report on Disability, it is estimated that 1 in 5 people globally are considered as having a disability. In Australia it’s calculated as 3.96 Million Australians (ABS 2003) who still face negative attitudes and inadequate customer service from front line staff (from all industries) because they do not know how to engage with us. This challenge must be properly addressed because it leads to social isolation and exclusion. The underlying cause of this issue is due to current ineffective and unengaging methods to educate and train about disability awareness. Notably existing boring and unempowering online training service, which are glorified powerpoint presentations.

THE SOLUTION
The key to addressing the challenge is the education of our community. Led by people with first-hand experience of disability we are developing a digital gaming experience that is already proven to engage users while educating them on real challenges in the community. We are starting the project with a focus on disability service providers and their front line staff. But our vision is broad and ultimately we plan on bringing this engaging experience to the larger community.

Enable Development’s experience of delivering in person disability awareness training has proven successful, now, by using game design and simulation on smart mobile devices and virtual reality technology, that success will be magnified and reach thousands more.

THE OPPORTUNITY OF NOW
The timing for this initiative is now. The momentum of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) rollout is midway. Once completed in 2020 there will be a $22 Billion market increasing demand for well-trained service delivery professionals. NDIS position statement of the market reports that there are currently 225,300 support workers and 2377 disability service providers in VIC, NSW, QLD, SA and Tasmania. It is projected that this number will grow to 380,900 support workers by 2019.

Lead Social Enterprise:
Enable Development is an award winning social enterprise with a vision where people with disability empowered to make an impact as a valued member of our global community.
We are achieving this by providing disability inclusion education and consultancy to government bodies, educational institutions and corporate.
