  • Greetings guys, this is my latest 3d model referenced from a toy design from the WOW universe. The character is called Korg HighMountain, I'm sure many of you who plays WOW would recognize him in some form. I really love the concept art and design of the creature so I went with a more realistic and gritty approach in textures and modeling. The model has 12k polygons including all the amours and accessories. Two 2k * 2k texture layouts, each consists of Diffusemap, Normalmap, CavityMap, Ambient…
  • Melbourne games developer, Firemint, are attending the upcoming Game Connect conference which kicks off this Sunday in Melbourne. They'll be taking part in two particular sessions, "What we learned from self-publishing Flight Control and Real Racing on the Apple App Store (Monday at 2:10pm), and "The State of Australian Game Industry" at 4:55pm. They're also generously sponsoring students from RMIT, AIE, and Qantm, as well as local game developers who've been recently let go, to come along to…
  • Well, it's been over 12 months since I last had a crack at a demo. I fell on my sword with my last attempt due to the fact that I was trying to do everything in one go, e.g. create the tech as I needed it. Anyway, it's been 12 months since I last did anything for myself so I thought I'd give it another go. Basically I want to do this for 2 main reasons: 1. I think I have an awesome idea for a game and I want to be able to show the mechanics of it off (graphically it may suck :P ) 2. To learn…
  • With Game Connect '09 rolling next weekend in Melbourne, what better time to have GDAA president, Tom Crago, for a few questions for tsumea on what this years games developer conference has in store for us. 1. What do you think will be the main focus of GCAP this year? Tom Crago: When we put the program together each year, we try to make sure there's a good mix of content for people already working in the industry, and for those about to enter it. It's also a challenge, of course, to get the…

  • Gamepro have revealed what a blurred out portion on the front cover preview of their January 2010 magazine is, and it's none other than the sequel Melbourne's Infinite Interactive's popular RPG / Puzzle hybrid, Puzzle Quest. Not much more than that is known about Puzzle Quest 2 at this time unfortunately, but they do have a high resolution screenshot image of the new game which has many concluding that it's coming to Xbox 360 via Xbox Live, although it seems likely that Infinite Interactive…
  • Congratulations must go to Firemint for taking out the Australian Export Award in the Arts and Entertainment Category, announced at the awards ceremony at Parliament House in Canberra, last Monday. We've seen many local game development studios take out similar export awards over the years for their particular state, but this is the first time I can recall a game studio take out the major national one. Excellent stuff! (Press release) Melbourne, 23 November 2009 – Firemint today announced that…
  • Believe it or not, we still have a developer's listing here on tsumea! I'm planning to spruce it up to make it a bit more user friendly, but the latest addition to the list is a casual indie developer from Melbourne called KlickTock. Who are they? Well, here's some KlickTock info from their 'about' page... KlickTock was formed in 2009 by Matthew Hall. Matthew is an experienced game developer who’s been dreaming about games since… forever. He started programming at the age of seven and he has…
  • Online internet petitions. In a lot of cases, they don't make a lick of difference. This, however, could lead up to something more than just hot air and wasted internet space seeing as it's on the Queensland Government website. This E-Petition, currently open at www.parliament.qld.gov.au is calling for the Queensland government to permit an R rating for games classification. It's currently sitting at 3185 signatures, but who knows, with a lot more people signing some support for this petition,…
