Sumea Pixel Town!!!!

  • In my first and previous post in this game dev log entry, I had written that I wanted to do a game which was a collection of simple retro games. Unity released a new major release (2019.3) while I was putting the initial project together, and I…

  • Well, I'm making a game . I'm spending the next few weeks on making a small game to showcase the gamedev log feature on tsumea where any member can create a game entry and other members can post journal posts with art, music or just development…

  • Just a test #2. Still working on the new section.

  • So, I got a Commodore 64 when I was in the 4th grade. It came bundled with a Rolf Harris picture building program on casette tape which never loaded properly but from what I could tell by its box cover, you could build pictures from a selection…

  • Yes, the site looks very different and I've had to prematurely switch to this new theme that I'm working on for a few reasons, the main one is that changing certain aspects of the site to fit the new theme will affect how the old one looks for…

  • (this is just a test, please ignore this entry)

Here is some of my old work.. the first pic is of a 3d model of a human head I was working on about 2 years ago in 3dsmax, using nurbs. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't model a head with…

Ok, this is the new Draw Club activity, and it's a simple one. It shouldn't take you much time to do at all! It's the Sumea Pixel Town activity!!

http://www.sumea.com.au/sumeatown.asp
To participate, you first have to reserve your plot of land. Post in here which number you want. Some land is bigger than others, so if you don't intend to spend too much time on pixelling some art, choose the smaller ones. Once you reserve your land, take a snapshot of the webpage, chuck it in photoshop, and do your pixel-fu. When you're done, post a gif of only your area in this forum, and I'll grab it and add it to the page.
Everyone's welcome to participate (yes, even you coders!), and go nuts with ideas!! (it doesn't necessarily have to be of a house).

(btw, I'll be redesigning the logo/page a bit later.. just wanted to get the map up atm [:)])

im still thinking of what to put on my last plot...[?]

Submitted by Engels on Fri, 30/04/04 - 9:33 PM Permalink

Is there any land left in Pixel town? If so, I'd like plot 28 please, or any plot nearby that's still available! :)

I hope I havn't missed out...it all makes me feel a bit like a first home buyer!

Submitted by souri on Fri, 30/04/04 - 11:41 PM Permalink

You can have mine since I've already done one.. #67 is yours.

Submitted by MoonUnit on Tue, 04/05/04 - 7:03 AM Permalink

lol and there goes half the map

Submitted by palantir on Tue, 04/05/04 - 8:55 AM Permalink

Heh, yeah, it looks great and all, but it does block out 5 other people's land! Still, if they aren?t going to bother putting anything on their plots, then I guess they won't care if their land is covered from view.
I guess it could always be removed or shrunk if the other people ever get around to making anything? At least it fills up the map for the time being.
(Hey, it should have a helicopter pad on top!)

Submitted by dom on Tue, 04/05/04 - 9:29 AM Permalink

i also like to make an addition if there's a lot free :)

Submitted by souri on Tue, 04/05/04 - 4:08 PM Permalink

Engels, it's a bit too tall, and it also doesn't fit on the plot either (half of it is outside the town). So here's what I've done - I've modified your apartment building so it doesn't have as much levels, and I've placed it on plot 64. I'm sure VGNZ_Wozza won't mind since he's already done another plot.
That means Dom is free to take #68. Dom, on the guide where it shows you the area to build, there's a small bit of green next to your plot. You can build on that part as well. Look at the guide to see what I mean.

Is there anyone that has a plot that isn't going to develop it because I'd love to do something but as there isn't any more lots left, would anyone like to pass their plot to me? [:D]

Submitted by MoonUnit on Mon, 10/05/04 - 2:19 AM Permalink

hey souri, you need to put something in that "fun things to spot" list :D

All the 'city' squares seem to be taken, Will a new city be created, or is this a once off fun activity?

Submitted by souri on Fri, 14/05/04 - 8:23 AM Permalink

Yeh, Sumea town is a one-off activity. We'll get onto a new activity once all the plots on this one is done.

The list of people who have empty plots:

4. Gazunta
7. 0xBaaDf00d
8. Callan
10. Maitrek
11. ScORCHo
12. Tbag
13. lukeo25
17. Brain
24. Goldenchocobo
25. Goodgod
28. Bunny
31. Jonathan Kerr
38. Shath
45. mutant_fork
46. mutant_fork
48. Adamant
52. SoulcalibuR
55. Napes
60. Majorclod
61. Kalin
67. Dom

Please have them done soon. I don't feel like chasing you all for this [:(]. mutant_fork has two empty plots, so if one of you want to take over his #46, give me a shout here.

This will look really cool when done :)

Maybe if something like this is done again in the future, a rule system designed to get it all filled up could be used? Like maybe a time limit to make something for your plot, and if you exceed the time limit, it gets given to the next person, and so on. Or another idea would be to not even have reserved plots, and just make it first come first served ? as in the first people to make something are the first people to get a plot to put it on. A system like this might help motivate people.

You know, a system like this could actually be used for the remaining plots? [;)]
At this rate they will never be filled.

Submitted by Bane Star 00 on Fri, 14/05/04 - 9:58 AM Permalink

how about just making the map a little more... generic,.. so someone that makes a building for plot 23, and is beaten to the plot, can mildly adjust it for plot 43.. or mirror image to fit elsewhere

I know I'm new here, but I'd say 48 hours is enough for someone to say.. "I wanna make that" and get the bits & peices together to make it....

Submitted by souri on Sat, 15/05/04 - 12:30 AM Permalink

I wasn't expecting people to take weeks and weeks to do their plots, so didn't think it needed much organising. Really, it should only take an hour to do something on your little plot - it's pixel art, and it doesn't need to be extremely detailed or animated either.
So c'mon people! We should've been on to the next activity by now!

Submitted by Makk on Sat, 15/05/04 - 6:39 AM Permalink

How about we give the a couple of days, then if they dont submit anything they lose their plot. Then, any free plot can be taken. BUT! you cannot reserve a plot, they only way to be sure yours will be there is to be the first to submit something for that plot.
This could result in rushed work though, just a suggestion as this has really dragged on.

Submitted by palantir on Sat, 15/05/04 - 1:10 PM Permalink

It's a good idea Makk, but it would work better I think, if people could reserve the new plots, and then have 24 HOURS ONLY to submit something before it goes up for grabs again. Otherwise people might spend a few hard hours making something cool, only to find the plot they made it for is gone. Like you say, we don?t want to encourage rushed work.

I think the people willing to make something deserve the plots more then the people that just dream about making something. Every other activity/challenge has some kind of time limit, this should too.
