Take Two buyout could mean third studio in Australia for EA

There have been some rather big bombshells in the games industry recently. For those who were lucky to have met Phil Harrison while he visited our shores for the Australian Game Developers Conference (AGDC), news of his departure from Sony must've have left many in deep shock.

But the biggest news, however, is of Electronic Art's intention to buy out Take Two, a publisher with many inhouse development teams such as 2K Australia, for a handsome sum of $2 billion dollars. And while Take Two has rejected EA's initial offer, a few analysts and reporters have chimed in to say that an eventual sale is inevitable.

So what does this mean exactly for us? Electronic Art's presence in Australia has made a bit of a resurgence since their studio closed in Queensland back sometime in 2002, now with a studio in Melbourne as well as Pandemic Studios in Brisbane. The buyout means that 2K Australia could be the third EA owned studio in Australia, rivalling Krome Studios for the number of studios in Australia.
