In a surprising move recently, Capcom split from their agreement with THQ to distribute their titles in Australia. The news came with the announcement from Activision Inc, that an agreement was signed giving Activision exclusive rights to the distribution of Capcom titles to the Australian and New Zealand market. Activision’s John Watts, Senior Vice President, Managing Director, Asia/Pacific Region, had the following to say:
We are delighted to be working with one of the most admired Japanese video game companies in the world. The calibre of Capcom's products is second to none and this new relationship underscores Activision's commitment to bringing some of the world's biggest game franchises to the Australian and New Zealand markets. We are very excited to be working with Capcom and look forward to a long and successful partnership with them in this territory.
IGN managed to catch THQ's PR and Promotions Coordinator, Drew Taylor, for comment:
All good relationships eventually come to end. We certainly enjoyed working with them - with [distributing] Dead Rising, for instance. But at the end of the day, these things happen - and they happen quite often in this industry. Capcom are also buying up in UK, so the company is obviously going in a new direction for a while. We wish them the best of luck in the future.
*sigh* there goes my cheap Capcom games...
Anyone else remember the SNES era, where pretty much every THQ game released on the aforementioned platform was complete and utter garbage? Home Alone? Pitfighter?
:)
This is the best news heading ever.
