Academy of Interactive Entertainment August Open Day

Anyone remotely interested in game development will be at Freeplay:

Whoever scheduled that open day clearly does not have an eye on the local industry.
Unless they're doing it on that date to steal some of the people from Freeplay...

Freeplay looks awesome this year! I can't imagine you'd choose to leave it for a second.

So none of the students will be showing their projects on the Freeplay floor because their college has foolishly double-booked them?

I'd be pissed.

Dates for national AIE events were set in November last year. Open Days for all institutions are always in the last couple of weeks in August. Swinburne, Monash, La Trobe and Melbourne Uni have their open day on the same day as well.

We hope as many of our students as possible go to Freeplay! Open Day is a day for prosepctive students to come along and find out more, not for existing students, so there is no excuse for them not to showcase their games at FreePlay.

We have another Open Day in November and an Information Evening in October, so you won't miss anything if you go to Freeplay instead.

Who has the poor timing?
Most educational institutions have their open day this time of year...

Hi everyone,

As pointed out above, a lot of institutions have their open days in August and while we tried to avoid clashes as much as possible while still having the library available, we couldn't avoid them all. Since taking over the festival, when to have it has always been a challenge because there is always so much going on in Melbourne that we either want to give space to or find a way to work with - and it's only becoming harder as events in Australia and around the world pop up that focus on play & indie development and we find ourselves competing with them as well for speakers & press. The problem we need to solve is when to have the festival that makes it available to developers, artists, students, players, educators, and families, and in the leadup to 2011, we're thinking very strongly about when is the best time to have the 2012 festival to avoid clashes here and abroad.

Cheers,
Paul.
