Fixed Term - 6 Months

Immediate start - 3-4 days a week

Mayday is seeking a fixed-term 3D Generalist Artist to join our team here in Wellington, Aotearoa.

We’re looking for someone who is comfortable jumping into an existing project and art style who enjoys working with a team. In this role, you will be helping our art team design and build 3D environments, props, and characters, from inception to engine.

This is a great opportunity for folks seeking mid-term but flexible contract work.

Please note, that we are only considering candidates who have experience with shipped titles in their game portfolio.

On-site preferred, but remote is possible.

Requirements

  • Good technical knowledge of Unreal Engine 4

    Understands the UE4 asset pipeline, scene hierarchy, materials, shaders, lighting & optimization. Able to effectively troubleshoot technical and artistic issues

  • Comfortable with helping to drive visual development of Environment Art

    Has developed asset kits and experience doing set-dressing

  • Experience comparable to 4+ years working professionally to develop games

    Either in a studio environment or independent environment.

  • Experience working with and guiding junior artists

    Good people skills and has worked with less experienced artists before

  • Strong stylize 3D skills

    Able to work in Maya/Blender, SubstancePainter/Designer and Zbrush, developing assets from concepts to final in-engine assets

  • Previously worked with a cross-discipline team of Artists, Designers, Programmers and Animators.

‘Nice to Have’

  • Experience with character creation and an understanding of character topology for rigging.

  • Experience with rigging or skinning 3D characters.

  • Experience creating UI assets, logos, and icons.

  • Experience shipping a project on multiple platforms
