Grease Monkey Games has a wonderful opportunity for an Unreal Engine game developer to join our growing studio in Brunswick, Melbourne!  We are currently enjoying a period of unprecedented growth with a burgeoning player base and product pipeline and we would love for a creative, passionate and talented developer to become a key part of that growth.

As an Unreal Engine game developer at GMG you are a skilled problem solver that has a strong understanding of the structures, loops, editors and scripting requirements in Unreal Engine. You are able to see multiple paths through a problem and are able to determine which path is optimal by identifying the correct balance between complexity, effort and performance. You are familiar with the workflow / pipeline in the engine for any type of asset (eg, art, audio, UI, scripts, etc). You are familiar with the concept of a document based database and how one designed / maintained. You are familiar with version / source control systems that handle code branching and merging. You care about the overall quality of the product and you are always sure to raise opportunities for improvement with others as you detect them. You are also able to debug effectively and reverse engineer systems when needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work on an exciting new game using cutting edge technology (including UE5)!

  • Take a work ticket that is assigned to you and be able to:

    • estimate the work involved.

    • identify / locate the changes that need to be made to the code base or data server.

    • implement the changes in a way that is both performant and functional in Unreal Engine.

    • effectively test the changes.

  • Peer review changes made by other developers.

  • Participate in and contribute to technical design discussions / decisions.

  • Own a ticket from assignment to QA acceptance and ensure it is progressed and not stalled.

  • Collaborate with other departments where necessary on design requirements and asset production.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in professional development on Unreal Engine.

  • A strong understanding of Unreal Engine, including its structures, loops, editors, scripting requirements and workflow / pipeline.

  • An awareness of the main culprits that can affect performance in a game in the engine and how to address those.

  • Advanced C++ programming.

  • Advanced skills in blueprints.

  • A basic understanding of source control solutions like git.

  • Strong problem solver with a mind to architectural and forward thinking driven design.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Effective communication skills

  • Love working in team environments. 

  • Positive attitude towards constructive feedback.

  • Collaboration skills.

  • “Finger on the pulse” - a desire to stay up to date with changes in the latest engine versions and to engage in any related training or courses that may become available online.

Bonus:

  • Experience in console development and release (major bonus).

  • A tertiary qualification specifically in game development.

  • Experience with databases as they pertain to game data use cases.

  • Experience with git.

  • Experience with dev-ops / live service games.

  • An understanding of free-to-play game monetisation and game economies

  • Ability to develop for various devices including mobile (both IOS and Android makes and models), PC and console.

  • Familiarity with Torque Drift’s genre (car racing) and experience in developing for that genre.

  • Experience with physics engines, especially as they pertain to car racing.

  • A short term start date or immediate.

 

Wage range:

Negotiable based on experience.
