About us:

Modern Storyteller is an Australian studio, and the creator of award-winning, critically acclaimed game The Forgotten City. We’re growing, and we’re looking for an experienced 3D Environment Artist to get in on the ground floor and help visualise and build our ambitious new game - the first of its kind in Australia - a fantasy open-world sandbox RPG. This is a remote position.

Duties:
  • Vision: Work with the Creative Director to help develop an art style and vision for the game
  • Landscaping: Assist with the design and creation of a visually impressive open world landscape in Unreal Engine
  • Scene composition: Design and implement visually appealing points of interest throughout the game world
  • Modular Kit Design: Design and build modular art kits for the rapid creation of towns and dungeons
  • Props: Create high-quality 3D props by identifying reference, modelling and texturing
  • Materials: Create good-looking, well-optimized materials
  • Lighting: Use Unreal’s lighting tools to light scenes

Requirements:
  • A burning desire to make a fantasy open-world sandbox RPG 
  • A portfolio demonstrating the ability to create beautiful story-rich 3D environments in Unreal Engine 4 or 5
  • Strong proven ability to use Blender/Maya etc, Zbrush, and Substance
  • Proven 3D modelling expertise in organic matter and also hard surface
  • Proactive and self-reliant
  • Strong time management skills
  • Willing to help mentor less experienced artists if required
  • Be located in any timezone between Western Australia and New Zealand (including Asia!)
Bonus points:
  • Be located in the AEST time zone
  • Experience working in the games industry
  • Experience modding popular open-world sandbox RPGs
  • Experience leading and/or mentoring
  • Interest in history and creating historically authentic environments
  • An understanding of The Forgotten City
