IGDA Melbourne are having a double header for the next monthly meet-up on Tuesday, next week.

Just released on iOS and Android is Pocket Dogfights by Melbourne indie games developer, Rob Caporetto.

The development of Pocket Dogfights started in late 2011, from a period when Rob was working on a bunch of small game prototypes in his spare time. Finding this one to be the most fun, he started developing it further during his downtime from a day job.

Rob will be talking all about Pocket Dogfights and the valubale lessons he's learnt during its development. Pocket Dogfights looks to be a Time-Pilot-ish arcade shooter with WWII era planes and some huge bossfights thrown in for good measure. It looks great, so be sure to check it out at www.pocketdogfights.com and have a bunch of questions prepared for Rob next week!

The 2013 Games Developer Conference recently wrapped up in San Francisco, and IGDA Melbourne event organiser, Giselle, has returned with a whole lot of stuff to share and discuss with the rest of the Melbourne games community. Don't miss out on your opportunity to give some valuable input!

Be at the 1000 Pound Bend on Tuesday 9, April from 6.30pm, and check yourselves in at the Facebook event page now!

When: Thursday 28th March, 7pm (US Pacific time)
Where: Tradition Bar, San Francisco
Who: Aussies and friends of Aussies who are 21 or over.

Giselle and Rebecca, supreme event coordinators for IGDA Melbourne and IGDA Sydney, have joined forces to organise a big party for Australians (and their friends!) attending the Game Developer Conference (GDC) in San Francisco from the 25th to the 29th of this month.

With their combined superpowers, the local IGDA coordinators have already reached their first campaign goal within its first day of launch. There are, however, another 14 days left for the campaign and a whole bunch of new goals to make this event even more awesome, so if you want to contribute to make it even grander, feel free to hit up the Pozible page and make your pledge now!

$900 - Rebecca and Giselle don't shell out for the venue hire, and we've got a great gathering ready to go, should even be able to get some food included
$1800 - The terms of pozible prohibit offering alcohol as rewards, as well they should, but the food will taste better with this budget *wink*
$2700 - Just watch us party!

For those lucky enough to be heading to the GDC this year and want to attend this special event, you need to register at the Facebook event page beforehand!

When: Friday, 22 March. 5pm to 8pm
Where: Beer De Luxe, Federation Square

IGDA Melbourne are organising an event purely for playesting which will hopefully free up the regular IGDA Melbourne meetups at the Thousand Pound Bend for networking and discussions. This is the first of what may be a regular event depending on the response it gets, and it starts this Friday at Beer De Luxe in Federation Square from 5pm till 8pm.

It sounds like an excellent way to wind down the working week with a beer or two with like-minded games developers whilst giving some games in development a thorough work out in the process. If you're interested, head on over to the Facebook event page and mark yourselves down for it!

All are welcomed to come and playtest! If you plan on bringing your game for playtesting at the event, be sure to post a screenshot of your game at the Facebook page as well!

The next IGDA Melbourne meetup will be the launching party for Stickets, an "elegantly brutal" iOS puzzle game that won the award for "Best Australian Game" at the 2012 Freeplay Independent Games Festival. The developers behind Stickets, Wanderlands, will also be making available all their other games, including unreleased prototypes, at the venue for all attendees to play.

It'll also be a great opportunity to chat with the Wanderlands developers including Harry Lee, recipient of the Qantas Spirit of Youth Award: Interactive Content and Gaming in 2012 and one of the new directors for Freeplay, about Stickets and their body of work.

As usual, head on over to the Facebook page for this event for more information and don't forget mark yourselves as going if you plan to attend.
