FMod takes out best audio tool in Front Line Awards 2008

Congratulations are in order for Melbourne's Fightlight technologies who took out first place in the Audio Tool category in the Front Line Awards for 2008 with their flagship audio suite, Fmod Designer 4.17.

The Front Line Awards, which aims to give recognition to the tools that developers use to assist in their work, has been established for over a decade and is voted upon by the Game Developer magazine and Gamasutra reader polls.

Autodesk software credited for many top games this season

It's always interesting to see what software game developers use to complete particular tasks, and this press release from Autodesk is quite ingenious as it showcases a whole variety of Autodesk products and how they were used in some of the big name games that have been released this year. Firelight Technologies release FMOD Ex for iPhone

Firelight Technologies, the Melbourne audio middleware company behind the very popular FMOD Music and Sound Effects System, have announced FMOD Ex for the iPhone. FMOD is widely used in the games industry, most notably with 'World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King', 'Bioshock', 'Crysis', 'Call of Duty: World at War', 'Guitar Hero: World Tour' and 'Little Big Planet'. It also supports the largest range of hardware, from PC and Mac, to Linux, and Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo game consoles and handhelds.

Autodesk acquire REALVIZ and Kynogon

Some interesting news from Autodesk who have two more acquisitions under their belt. Some of you more knowledgable 3D modellers may be aware of Realviz. They're pretty well known for their tools that create 3D objects from photo imagery, amongst other things. Pretty clever stuff. Speaking of clever, Kynogon, copany behing the Kynapse artificial intelligence middleware solution that's being used in Alone in the Dark 5, Crackdown, Fable 2, has also been snapped up by Autodesk.
