In good holiday spirit, the folks at THQ sent an editor at Kotaku an awesome cake in the form of Blue Tongue's de Bob.
As you can see in the picture, it looks like a pretty accurate effort, although one wonders how de Blob's ears and limbs managed to remain stern and intact after its transport to Kotaku HQ.
Head on over to Kotaku for the rest of the cake pictures of de Blob!
It's amazing to read about the incredible expansions happening elsewhere in the games industry. The generous tax incentives that developers receive in Canada, for instance, has spawned these newly termed "Super Studios". Think Krome's 400 employees in three studios around Australia was impressive? Try THQ's 400 employees in one complex in Montreal, or the 800 capacity mega studio that Assassin's Creed producer, Jade Raymond, is heading up for Ubisoft Toronto.
It's been fairly common for big…
Thanks to Nnooo for tweeting about this as it's particularly substantial news for games developers (commercial as well as independent) based in New South Wales. Yes, N.S.W games developers certainly been starved of any form of Government support, and developers in this state have been sitting at the sidelines watching their counterparts in QLD and Victoria receive various forms of funding or dev equipment support for years while they receive none.
Well, Sydney developers, here's your chance to…
Bejeweled is a puzzle game phenomenom. Making over $500 million dollars in revenue for PopCap, it is one of the top 10 bestselling videogames of all time. It's also one of just two puzzle games that have been inducted into the Computer Gaming World Hall of Fame (the other is Tetris) and the Guinness World Records has Bejewled listed as "The Most Popular Puzzle Game Series of the Century."
Of course, when a game idea reaches this amount of success, it inspires a substantial number of copies and…
New local independant games developer, Defiant Development, have just released Rocket Bunnies for Android based mobiles. If you have not heard of Defiant Development, they're based in Brisbane and consist of ex-Pandemic Australia veterans. The idea for their Rocket Bunnies game came from one of their discarded 48 Hour Game Making Challenge ideas from 2009. The idea seems to have struck with the team, so much so that they've developed and polished it to completion.
There are a few games in…
The success of Firemint's Flight Control afforded the Melbourne games developer the funds and the time to develop and polish Real Racing for the iPhone. Real Racing featured social connectivity and offered gamers the ability to upload their replays to youtube, functionality that had not appeared in handheld gaming yet. It took a years worth of development and was known to be one of the most expensive iPhone titles made at the time.
It was released in June 2009 for $9.99 a pop in a market…
