Recently completed VTuber commission of a cute little Jerboa Knight! Was a pleasure to work on such a fun character and I learnt a couple of new things about stylized shaders and rendering along the way.
  • I haven't mucked around with MAME (multiple arcade game emulator) for years so I decided to snoop around and see they're up to. Oh boy, have I been missing out. This is the *COOLEST* thing I have seen in a long time! Kaillera was created by a Nullsoft developer, who you should know are responsible for Winamp. From the Kaillera website, "Kaillera enables emulators to play on the Internet. It consists of a client and a server. The client is usually embedded into your favorite emulator and the…
  • C|net has an article with some comments from developers about the importance of gameplay, and less emphasis on eye candy in games, from the recent Game Developer Conference in London: "The danger is that we end up spending 99 percent of the time modeling dust particles hanging in the air and 1 percent of the time on gameplay," said Peter Molyneux, creator of the game "Black & White." An interesting read
  • 3D festival has a great article which gives an insight to creative process and ideas behind the characters from the movie Stuart Little 2. Some amazing facts from there include: "Altogether the Falcon had between five to six thousand feathers, many of which were placed manually." Now that's just plain nutty. View the article here. Also, be sure to check out their interview with Francisco Cortina, the guy who worked on a lot of the characters from Final Fantasy, the movie. Some great info on how…
  • The developer diary section at Gamespy currently has an article written by John Passfield, Design Director at Krome Studios. He covers how Ty, the Tasmanian Tiger came to be, from the initial idea, to the sketches, game design planning and story. Some cool concept art in there too! "Both Steve and I had been dying to do a platformer since we'd finished the last Halloween Harry game back in 1996 and wanted to get the team involved. With a possible resurgence of the platform genre we saw an…
  • Although I couldn't find it mentioned anywhere on Ratbags website, Gamespy reports that Dirt Track Racing 2 has gone gold, and will be available at stores in a few weeks.
  • Infogrames has bought the remaining share of Ozi soft from Sega. Ozi soft is a leading Australian games distributor, and will now become Infogrames Australia. ?The Asia Pacific is an important territory, and the fact that Infogrames is continuing to invest in this region is an absolute sign of confidence in the market.? "This latest investment follows on from a AU$50 million commitment to Australian games development made by Infogrames? CEO Bruno Burnell when visiting the Australian Games…
  • Adobe has released an update for Photoshop 7 which fixes a lot of bugs which are too numerous to mention here. Click here to view the list and to download the patch.
  • What do you talk about when you have Tim Willits and Fred Nilsson, lead designer and animator at id software to interview concerning Doom 3? Gameplay and engine elements, of course! It's a good read, but there's not as much on the game art side of the game. Read the Firing Squad interview here.. "Fred: The pipeline for doing cinematics is sweet - you can make a short film with the engine. I can take the level from the level designers, export it out with the geometry/polygons/textures into Maya…

Make sure you check up on their site for the latest Dimsdale & Kreozot news.
