Interzone selects BigWorld Technology Suite

Not shortly after the news that the Romero has licensed BigWorld Tech for his new development outfit, Slipgate Ironworks, comes this press release that BigWorld has snagged another licensee...

(press release)

(Chicago, ILLINOIS): - Interzone Entertainment, developer and publisher of massively multiplayer online games, today announced that it has chosen the BigWorld Technology Suite as the game development platform for its upcoming MMOG title.

Interzone Entertainment COO, Robert Spencer commented, ?BigWorld is clearly leading the field, with a proven technology and tools solution that allows us to hit the ground running. With the BigWorld Technology already in place, we are free to concentrate on what we do best, develop compelling worlds with innovative and exciting gameplay.?

?Interzone is a unique brand that is trying to accomplish something genuinely different in the online space,? said Gavin Longhurst, Director of Business Development of BigWorld. ?Our integrated approach provides them all the tools required to get a game, complete with a server and related online components, built in and train in a very short period of time, leaving more time to polish content and game play.?

No surprise there, Robert Spencer used to work for BigWorld.

Has there actually been a BigWorld powered game released yet?

No, I don't think so... hmmm, no sir, I don't like it!

Yeah Rob worked for Bigworld..... go on....?

and just because hardly anyone owns a bugatti veyron doesn't mean it ain't a good car, from what I've seen so far it seems to do what its supposed to do, and does it pretty well, so what more do you want? Seriously whats with all the condescending comments? There's always been this weird ass elitist culture on this forum where if a company isn't one of the top 5 then it's somehow dangerous.

Seriously wtf? Whats this website for? it's to support the local industry, The more games companies that start up in this piss ant country the better. Guess what, if Interzone and many of the other startups do well, then the industry does well, and you get a pay rise. So here's a suggestion, how bout being supportive for a change, and if you have to hack on someone or make sly comments, then do it about a place that you know is doing the industry wrong, not a place that you simply no nothing about.

I think the concern is the technology, not Interzone. MF make big claims about how great their tech is, but, it hasn't been used in a successful title yet. It kind of lacks credability that way, Jacky, in that it is not proven tech yet ;)

Oh, you might want to re-think the whole supporting thing, in that it is not a good idea to be supportive to everyone. You need to use a little foresight and such, Jacky.

So Jacky your analogy is saving that bigworld is rediciously expensive like a Bugatti Veyron?

AC #5 & 6 you could also take the analogy as also being like the Veyron, Bigworld is more or less at the top of it's class. The argument there is rather pointless since not too many people have had any real production experience with it, so speculating and just attacking it and the companies that use it seems more or less just to fuel a petty and fragile ego.

    # 5 and 6 aren't the same person. And you have pretty much just added support to what I said... it has never been used in a commercial title, no one knows whether it is really up to the task as it has not had that quality pressure in place, yet, everyone goes on about it like it is the best thing under the sky and to come out of the local industry.

    That is just PR BS.

I wrote #6 I wasn't criticising Bigworld as such, I was just it more amusing that the person decided to use one of the most expensive cars on the planet to use as the comparison point.

"Oh, you might want to re-think the whole supporting thing, in that it is not a good idea to be supportive to everyone. You need to use a little foresight and such"

Read the last line of my statement, other than that, fair enough, I agree that Bigworld hasn't been proven, but it' also does not mean its going to be crap. Its a new product relatively, you can't expect something to just explode onto the market. And seriously, you're saying MF has been making giant claims? well come on, it's marketing, of course they have, they have to try and sell their product don't they? How many games companies don't claim "massive free roaming worlds" and "cutting edge next gen graphics" to get their products out the door?

So I'm guessing you want Bigworld to somehow create an engine and suddenly have a heap of big name devs use it straight off the bat, and you don't want them to use marketing to do it... It's kind of a hard ask.

"So Jacky your analogy is saving that bigworld is rediciously expensive like a Bugatti Veyron?"

Nope, I'm not a coder, so I don't have the faintest idea of whether its the greatest thing on the planet or not, frankly I don't care. If it works it works, and so far it seems to work. Nor do I know anyone other than Rob who has any direct link with either Bigworld or MF. My point, is that these comments you're making are putting people in a shady light whom have done nothing to deserve it, and it happens a lot on these forums for no reason. Yes there are places and people around who have the bad reputations, have screwed people over in the past, and who are in some way ruining it for others, but as far as I'm aware IZ is not one of them, All they're trying to do is start up an mmo dev, and purchasing a mmo engine which they have exp with actually seems pretty logical to me. Why would they choose anything else, or waste time building a new one? What would be the point in that?

And I guess I screwed up liking it to the veyron, if it'll let you sleep at night then think of it as an Audi RS, AM DB12 or something, I suppose I just wasn't expecting people to over analyze the statement so way beyond their need. Jesus I guess I've learned my lesson, next time I just wont grant you any benefit of the doubt at all.

Why exactly do you assume that talk of BW or MF is an attack on IZ there jacky?

No one really knows a damn thing about the company. They are for all purposes, a startup. Maybe a well funded startup that has attracted a pool of talent, but still a startup.

When we talk of BW and MF, it is about them, not IZ. As I said, you guys don't have a rep yet to attack.

If anyone is giving IZ bad publicity, it is you Jacky, for assuming for more than was implied... maybe you should think about that before posting again, or don't writers think that far ahead or something?

In fact, I was thinking of applying there myself. Thinking that is. But with the way you have gone on for no reason... I've decided not to :)
  • 13. Jackydablunt - Fri, 13 Apr 2007 0:17:14Z
If you've allowed this rather minimal conversation to sway your thoughts on applying to IZ which would more than likely cause you to move to the other side of the country, then I doubt you were serious about it in the first place, so don't even think about blaming me for that. That was just a cheap strike to try and make me regret what I said, but it didn't work. All I've done is defend IZ, and if pride in a company causes people to not apply, then they probably wouldn't fit in there anyway.
